ERMANNO BARONE April 7, 1941 - February 5, 2014 It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Ermanno Barone on February 5, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. Ermanno leaves to cherish his wonderful memory: his wife, Gordana, his son, Robert (Rachel), his grandchildren, Giorgio & Stephanie, his brother Tony, sister Milvia (Tony), his nieces, Giorgia & Isabella & nephews, Victor (Ani) & Tony (Christina) & Tony Jr., his stepson Tony (Caterina) & Olivia. He was predeceased by his parents, Giorgio & Marina. Ermanno was born in Amato, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1952 with this family. He grew up in Winnipeg where he obtained a teaching degree, but his love for the West Coast brought him to Kelowna where he & Elaine owned Happy Valley Resort in Westbank for many years. His exuberant personality led him to form some wonderful lifetime friendships both through his resort and in Palm Springs where he spent the winter months. Ermanno has an eclectic range of accomplishments from football player (having played for the St. Vital Bull Dogs), to poet (for which he won several awards), to published author, to movie producer, and property developer. Ermanno will be remembered for his contagious smile, his off-beat sense of humor and his exuberant generosity. His cup was never half full, it was always overflowing. Although he will be mourned deeply, he will always be remembered with a smile and with true love for his kind and gentle nature. Thank you to Mark & Donna for their continuous commitment and strength during this difficult time; to cousins, Carmelo & Felicia; to Willy & Wilma; to Joan & Jim; to Onofrio & Cleo; & to Pastor Jim. A big thank you to all his friends who came and called from near and far. Sincere appreciation to all of the doctors & staff on 6W at Kelowna General Hospital for the tender care and support that they provided. Your concern and compassion has been a gift to the family. Viewing will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2547 Hebert Rd, West Kelowna with service at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BC Cancer Foundation, Southern Interior, 399 Royal Avenue, Kelowna, BC V1Y 5L3. Rest in Peace Ermanno. We love you. BERNICE GEORGE Bernie left us Tuesday, February 4th in the Penticton Regional Hospital after a 6 month period of various medical problems. Her journey in life began in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, July 5, 1924 - the youngest of the 13 children of Fred and Minnie Delisle. Bernie's father Fred, along with his three brothers and their families, settled in and founded the town of Delisle, Saskatchewan – and her life's journey took her to Edmonton, Victoria, Vancouver and Penticton. Husband, Cal, met her in Vancouver and married in 1948 - moving to the wonderful Okanagan in 1967, where she worked in Ashton's Ladies Wear, then for the telephone company at Phonemart in Cherry Lane. CORRADO, Jan Mom was born to Paddy and Dorothy Dougan (LaFace) in Rossland, BC on December 9th, 1940. With her brother Patrick and sister Linda, she experienced all the joys of living in a small alpine village in the late 40's and 50's. During Mom's first year of teaching primary school in 1959, she met a young man from Trail, also a teacher, Amerigo (Am) Corrado; they were married in 1961 and settled in their paradise-Kelowna. The 60's saw Mom very active with both her teaching and later in the Kinette Club of Kelowna. With the births of Jay, Dean and Jill, her focus shifted to family. The 70's were spent in hockey rinks and on basketball courts, baseball and softball diamonds. Both Jan and Am retired from teaching in the early 90's and travelled the world. Between trips, they welcomed eight grandchildren into it. Carly, Maggy, Alley (Jay and Sandy) Jordan, Jenna (Jill and Jamie) Anthony, Melaina and Elana (Dean and Margo) kept Mom and Dad busy with various sporting activities and babysitting assignments. Dad predeceased Mom in 2005. Shortly afterwards Mom found a new home at Sandalwood and a wonderful set of friends. With trips and parties, volunteer activities and especially with countless games to watch the grandchildren play, she found plenty to keep herself busy. Mom passed away after a very brave and dignified battle with cancer. Our love and thanks go to the amazing KGH staff on 4B and the world's best care givers and nurses at Hospice House. A private service will be held for family at Springfield Funeral Home and a Celebration of Mom's life will be hosted for friends and family at her clubhouse at Sandalwood on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers or gifts for the families, we would like to encourage people to donate, in Jan's name, to Central Okanagan Hospice House, 2035 Ethel Street, Kelowna, B.C., V1Y 2Y6. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.springfieldfuneralhome.com (250) 860-7077

PANTON, Evelyn Jeanette Irene July 9, 1918 - February 06, 2014 Our most loving Mother, Evelyn Jeanette Irene Panton (nee Ashley) passed away peacefully in her sleep and at home in Vancouver, having lived a long, happy and well loved life. Mom was predeceased by her adoring husband of 64 years, Jim (2008) and her two brothers, Lawrence and Eugene Ashley of Kelowna. Forever to be loved and missed by her four boys, Don (Loree), Bob (Stephanie), Bruce (Anna) and Dave (Bobbie); eight grandchildren, Ryan (Marita), James (Mary), Jenn (Josh), Ashley (Adam), Vanessa, Mikal, Dain and Nicole; one great grandson, Charlie; two sisters-in-law, Eileen Ashley and Joan Williams; and Colleen Nielsen, whose love and care for her in her final years was offered as if she had been her own daughter. We are all the lucky benefactors of Mom's gentle, loving nature. Her welcoming smile and soft eyes were always assuring us that we were exactly who she wanted to see and be with. Mom's love, encouragement and trust were unwavering and unconditional. She was always there when you needed a hug, someone to listen and especially to encourage you. Our family was her great love and her life's work. Her love and devotion to our father was bottomless. Her travel adventures with Dad captivated our imaginations and set paths for us all to follow. She set an eternal example of goodness for everyone to see and appreciate. Born in Macklin, Saskatchewan in 1918, but moving to Kelowna with her family as a child allowed her to experience the warm magic of Okanagan sunshine and ultimately the opportunity to meet and marry Jim in the summer of 1943. Moving to Victoria in 1958, Mom continued to support Dad's career, growing sons, family summer vacations in Kelowna and finally Dad's legendary gold medal Master's Swimming accomplishments. The rest is a wonderful history for her 4 sons and extended family, recorded forever on Dad's 8mm movies. She was our perfect Mom, Granny and Friend. In lieu of flowers, and in the spirit of her life's work, her sons ask her memory to be best honored with a random act of kindness. A private family Celebration of Life will take place March 1.
