GREEN, WILLIAM "GEORGE" Passed away peacefully on January 25, 2014 at the age of 86 years. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife, Kathryn Green, children; Tom (Yvette) Green of Campbell River, Judy (Ken) Gamble of Surrey, Donna (Colin) Kozak of West Kelowna, George (Tovie) Green of Salmon Arm, eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. His love of life and people touched the lives of all who knew him; well loved for his humour, generous spirit, compassionate and thoughtfulness, never ending ability to fix things. LOUDEN, Grant Warren 59 On Sunday, January 26th, Grant passed away peacefully at his dream home in Kelowna, BC with the woman he loved by his side. Grant had a long, passionate career in the helicopter industry as a pilot, business owner and Helicopter Association of Canada board member and contributed countless hours to many committees and projects bettering the industry. Grant was a hero; putting out forest fires, flying heli skiers to the tops of mountains and moving drills for the oil and gas industry. He was a leader, mentor and friend to many pilots and engineers throughout his career. Grant was born in Niagara Falls, ON on April 5, 1954. He attended A.N. Myer Secondary, proceeded by his training at Niagara Helicopters and in Toronto, ON. In 1975 he came out west and flew out of Calgary and Canmore, AB before settling in Kelowna in 1991, buying his dream home in '92. In the early eighties; Grant, the humanitarian, supported his deeply rooted faith by flying famine relief in Ethiopia for several years. In 1996, Grant became co-founder and President of Skyline Helicopters which is still in operation today. Grant will be loved, cherished and never forgotten by his family, dear friends and co-workers. He will be lovingly remembered as the life of the party by all who had the opportunity. He was a man who was committed to his passion and work (helicopters), loved his girlfriend, and always enjoyed any down time at home on Okanagan Lake. He is survived by his girlfriend Teri Northcott of Kelowna, BC, parents Tom and Helen Louden of Niagara Falls, ON.; brother Dave Louden (Toni) of Grand Island, New York; brother Wayne Louden (Ann) of Calgary, AB; along with nephews Thomas, Daniel and Kyle. Funeral services will be held at The First United Church, 721 Bernard Ave., Kelowna and will begin at 3:30pm on Saturday, February 1, 2014. There is free parking behind the Boys and Girls Club off Lawrence Ave. A Celebration of Grant's Extraordinary Life will be held immediately following the service at the Sandman Hotel, 2130 Harvey Ave., Kelowna. ELLIS, EDWIN (Ted) William Haskell Passed peacefully on Monday, January 27th, 2014, at the Penticton Hospital. His death due to stroke ended a remarkable life. Having followed his father's footsteps enlisting in the RCMP in 1957 providing 31 years of outstanding service to Canadians. Ted was a quiet soul and enjoyed playing a round of golf with his buddies. Survivors include his wife of 53 years June; his son Jeff (Heather) Ellis, Holly Gannon (Carl) and Leanne (Ken) Karpuk; the joy of his heart his grandchildren Brittney, Cheyenne, Cody and Amanda; his sisters Verna Smith and Deann Jasienczyk; as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews and great friends. He was predeceased by his parents William and Vera Ellis and sister Lila Whittaker. The family would like to sincerely thank the doctors and nurses at Penticton Hospital for the kindness and compassion shown to Ted and the family. There will be no service as per Ted's wishes. TARR (nee Jenks), Marylou Born August 14, 1937 in Cardston, Alberta passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Penticton Regional Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Gyula, brothers William (Bill), wife Adele, Victor (Butch), wife Marilyn, sister Lavonne, children Allan and family, Carol, Randy, wife Sharon and daughter Kathleen, Barry, daughter Miranda and son Darcy, Robert (Robbie), wife Tracy, daughter Jalysa and step-daughter Hayley, Tracy, daughter Meghan and son Logan, Dallas, girlfriend Lisa, and favourite pooch Baby; as well as step-children (Gyula) Suzanne, Liz, Ocsi and Frank. She was pre-deceased by her mother Irene, father Victor, brother Dallas, niece Mardal and nephew Bobby. Marylou's wishes are being honoured through cremation (no viewing or funeral to be held) and return of ashes by children to Del Bonita, Alberta where she spent her earliest years.

ETTLES, Ronald Charles (Ron), Mar 31, 1936 - Jan 20, 2014 Died Jan. 20, 2014 in the Hospice in Kelowna, BC surrounded by his family. Born in 1936 in Port Alberni, BC, Ron is survived by Vi, his wife of 51 years, son Scott (Kathy), daughter Leslie Desrochers (David) and grandchildren Sarah, Lauren, Elizabeth, David, Ryan and Danielle. As a graduate of UBC (BSc) and the CGA program, Ron worked at Eatons, MacMillan Bloedel and Revenue Canada. Long time residents of North Vancouver, Ron and Vi retired to rural Lake Country, BC where Ron was actively involved with the Prince Charles Masonic Lodge and the local Shrine Club. The family wishes to thank Drs. Leon Bard and Denis Sokol, the staff at the North Shore and Kelowna Hospices and the Palliative Home Care nurses for their exemplary care. A gathering of family and friends will be held in North Vancouver at a later date.

BERUBE, Raymond Anthony February 28, 1931 - January 25, 2014 It is with great sadness and loving memories that the family of Ray Berube (82) announce his passing at Lake Country Lodge, Winfield, on January 25, 2014, after complications from pneumonia and heart failure brought on from his stroke on September 18, 2013. Ray was born in Westmount (Montreal) on February 28, 1931. He is predeceased by his father, Paul (1948) and his mother Helen nee Gates (1981), his brother Gerry and his sister Paula. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Pat, sons Bob (Margaret), Bill, Mike and daughter Lori, grandchildren Mike, Kurt, Taylor and Brooke, and great-grandchildren Indy, Brody, Landen and Sophie, as well as nieces Donna, Lynn, Suzanne, and Brigitte and various in-laws, friends and neighbours. Ray had a life-long love of aviation. There is almost no part of Canada that Ray didn't have first hand experience with. He lived in almost every province and territory and flew into the rest. He loved the fact that his family came to Canada in the 1600's, a truly proud Canadian. Ray loved animals. If desired, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to an animal shelter of your choice. The family would like to especially thank the staff at Lake Country Lodge for the kindness, care and respect they showed Ray over the last few months. QUIGLEY, MARY: January 8, 1914 - January 18, 2014 It is with loving memories and affection that we say goodbye to our beloved matriarch who passed away in Kelowna, BC on January 18, 2014, 10 days after her 100th birthday. She will be sadly missed by her loving daughter, Sandra (Al) Lutz of Penticton, daughter-in-law, Arlene Quigley of Kelowna, also by her grandchildren; Tracy (Linda) Warren of N. Delta, Caroline (Ken) Barbour of Penticton, Bill (Tina) Warren of Chilliwack, Dan Bulmer of Calgary, David Bulmer of Prince George, Chris Quigley, Gord Quigley both of Kelowna, Ann (Randy) Ohl of Cochrane, Alberta and Laura Lutz of Regina, 12 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by her husband, Gordon Quigley (1995), son, Randy Quigley (2013), brothers; Robert Baptie (1999), Stuart Baptie (2004) and sister, Kay Engley (1967). Mary was born in Cochrane, Alberta to Jeanie and Archie Baptie. She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed curling, playing cards and golf and especially visiting with friends and family reliving bygone years. FULTON, BETTY ELSIE MAY: died January 28, 2014 surrounded by her three children and the caring staff at Trinity Care Centre in Penticton. This brave woman moved with her husband, Stanley Fulton and three young children from England to Canada in 1966. She opened the first library in Mackenzie in the basement of her home. The family moved to Penticton in 1968 where Betty lived a very active and involved life. Betty had foster children for several years and established a Crisis Line in her home. She was the secretary for St. Saviours Anglican Church. She owned Easy Ceramics during the late 1970's and taught ceramics with wit and enthusiasm. Betty was known as the Dragon Lady which matched her fiery sense of humour. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Fulton, in 1989. She is survived by her three children, Janet Fulton (Jeff Daly) of Clive, Iowa, Penny Holmwood (Jesse Malott) of Penticton, and Stuart Fulton of Victoria, 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild. A Celebration of Life will be held in May at Everden Rust. PRICHARD, Rachelle Mae Passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the age of 89, surrounded by her loving family and the wonderful staff of Mountainview Care Home. She is survived by her children Russell, Douglas, Bonnie, Cheryl and Gregg, all of their families, as well as the father of her children, Gordon; siblings Ben, Martha, Esther, Margaret, Harold and Robert; and numerous nieces and nephews. SIMMONS, Linda (Sheehan) It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Linda (Sheehan) Simmons in Kelowna, BC on January 9, 2014. Linda was born in Fairview, AB, the tenth child of Cletus and Lena Sheehan. She spent her early years in Alberta and after graduating from high school she moved to BC where she started her family. After her last child was born she enrolled in the nursing program in Kamloops and became a registered nurse. Linda nursed in various hospitals at the coast for many years. Linda was loved and will be greatly missed by all her friends and family. Linda is survived by her husband Edward (Ted) Simmons; her son Darrin (Shelly); daughters Tamryn (Chris), Diane (Rick); grandchildren Ashton, Brayden, Bailey, and Paul. She also leaves her siblings, sisters Margaret, Delia, Patricia and Geneva; brothers Bernard and Warner. Linda was predeceased by her parents and sisters Alma and Caroline and brother Leo. She leaves numerous nieces and nephews to mourn her passing. There will be a Celebration of her Life for friends and family on February 15th, 1-4pm at 737 Leon Avenue. MORRIS, David George May 2, 1942 - February 2, 2014 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of David Morris at The Hospice House in Kelowna on Sunday, February 2, 2014, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Born in Edmonton on May 2, 1942. Dave is survived by Susan, his wife of 50 years; and 2 sons Brent (Vancouver), Bradley and wife Jacqueline (Miami). He is also survived by sister Shirley (Brian), 2 nieces Carolyn, Patricia and nephew David (Victoria). He is predeceased by his father George and mother Janet. Through David's career he has served as Administrator in Coldstream, City Manager in Kitimat and was appointed Executive Director of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, for British Columbia, a position he held until his retirement in 1997. David established a local government management consulting practice and working in conjunction with Urban Systems in Kelowna, to continue his support for local government in British Columbia. David is a past Provincial President and Life Member of the Local Government Management Association, and a long-time member of the Government Finance Officers Association of BC (GFOA) and CAMA. David enjoyed golf and was an avid world traveller. He will be loved and cherished and never forgotten by his family, dear friends and colleagues. SCHAFER, GEORGE HENRY 04 APRIL 1921 - 19 JANURARY 2014 George was born to Mary and John Schafer in Maryfield Saskatchewan. George went to public school in Canora, Dropmore, Calder and Yorkton, where he graduated Grade XII. He attended Normal School in Moose Jaw in 1940 and began teaching in Runnydale School in 1941. In 1942 he married his sweetheart Edna Propp and had two sons, Wayne and Garth. George worked hard to support his family and took one class every summer for many years, graduating from the University of Saskatchewan with his B.Ed degree in 1962. George taught school for 38 years in Rhein, Mylar, Togo, Kamsack, Yorkton, Estevan, and culminated his career as Principal of Assiniboine School in Kamsack Saskatchewan. George was active in many community volunteer roles. He was an avid sports fan, and loved working with community youth by coaching hockey, baseball, and track and field. In 1979 they moved to Penticton BC, and resided there ever since. On the professional side he was active in various teacher associations. A respected individual in the community, he was Justice of the Peace for many years in Kamsack.. George and Edna celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary last August in Penticton. In his final years George spent many enjoyable visits to the day programs at Village by the Station. Failing health made it necessary to seek a care facility in 2013. He was grateful for the support he received from his family, the staff at Westview in Penticton, and finally at Haven Hill. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Katie Schafer, sister Irene Catherwood, brothers Fred Schafer, Alex Schafer and Bill Schafer. He is survived by sisters Jean Schab, Doreen Walper, and Eileen Denluk and numerous nieces and nephews. He is mourned by his wife Edna, sons Wayne (Dianne) and Garth (Elizabeth) and grandchildren Lindsay and Lauren, Aaryn (Neil) and Amanda (Steve) and great-grandchildren Anna, Claire, Grayden, and Isla. The family extends sincere gratitude to Dr. Mike Surkan, and to the staff of Penticton Regional Hospital, Westview Care Facility, Haven Hill, and Interior Health, all of whom made George's final year as comfortable as possible. ACRES, Thelma Jean Born June 3, 1922 in Nakusp, Jean passed away peacefully at home on February 1st at the age of 91. She is survived by her brother, Bud Hoover (Monica) of Oliver, and sister-in law, Dorothy Powell of Summerland; daughter Joanne of Kelowna, sons Bruce (Bridget) of Strasbourg, France, and Trace of North Vancouver; daughters-in-law Renelle of Port Moody and Allison of Kelowna; and by 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Frank, and by sons Greg and Jack. Jean graduated from St. Paul's Hospital School of Nursing in 1944 and nursed at Kelowna General Hospital until the 1970s when she began a successful career in real estate sales with Hoover Realty, a firm founded by her father, Joe Hoover. Jean will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, knitting and good sense of humour, and will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 8 at 10 am at the Cathedral Church of St. Michael and All Angels, 608 Sutherland Ave., Kelowna. ARMSTRONG, MARION: PASSED AWAY...

ARMSTRONG, MARION: Passed away in Penticton on January 29, 2014, a few months short of her 101st birthday. Marion was born in Granum, Alberta and met Bob, her husband to be, at the University of Alberta. Bob went north to the newly discovered gold camp at Yellowknife and on one of his infrequent trips out, proposed to Marion, but time was pressing so they eloped to Las Vegas for a Vegas-style wedding. As a young bride, Marion was one of Canada's women pioneers of the north in Yellowknife and Thompson-Lundmark in the 1930's and early 1940's. Throughout her life she was passionate about painting, studied at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Montréal and became an avid student of art and an accomplished painter and teacher. In her later years, after she put away her brush and palette, she became a supporter of the arts in Penticton and played an important role in the development of the Penticton Art Gallery. Predeceased by her husband Bob in 2002, she is sadly missed by sons, Bill (Laurie) and Bob (Susan); five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Dr. Kooy and the staff at the Hamlets for their love and perennial attention, and her many friends in the Hamlets and Penticton for enriching her life.
