CARVIEL, Paula Christine Passed away suddenly on June 5, 2013, at the age of 49 years. Paula was a loving, caring person who was always concerned about others, even though she herself struggled to cope with life-long disabling health issues. Paula was predeceased by her mother, Sandra and is survived by her father, Ross; step-mother Ann; brothers: Mark (Tracy), Scott (Linda) and her nieces: Heather and Samantha and her nephew Graham. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. J. K. Brown, Community Living, Community Connections, her dedicated care and support workers for assisting Paula in achieving her maximum level of independence. Your efforts so enhanced her quality of life. We would also like to thank the medical staff and other staff at the Kelowna General Hospital, Emergency Department and the Ambulance attendants. CHEROT, Robert Henry In Loving Memory Born December 7th, 1919, St. Albert, Alberta Passed Away June 9th, 2013 Kelowna, British Columbia On June 9th, 2013, Robert Henry Cherot passed away peacefully at home at the age of 93 years. Robert is survived by his loving wife May Violet, who was by his side for 72 years, his son, Robert Joseph (daughter-in-law Sandra), Celestine Ann Hut (son- in-law Jack), Jacqueline May Cherot and Marilyn Faye Cherot (son-in- law Chris). In addition, Robert is survived by 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, his younger sister, Lorraine (Emile Morin) and younger brother Jack Cherot, numerous nieces and nephews. A ceremony for family and friends in honour of Robert will be held at ELYSIUM Gardens (2834 Belgo Road, Kelowna) on June 15th at 1:30 pm followed by a private service for the family at the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery. A special thank you from the family goes out to Dr. Hignell, the team of dedicated nurses from the Central Okanagan Hospice Palliative Care Program and his private caregivers who made it possible for the family to honour Robert's wishes to remain at home. GULENG, JOEL Passed away peacefully in Penticton, BC on June 4, 2013 at the age of 42 years. Joel will be remembered and sadly missed by his loving wife, Nemia, parents; Antonio and Pacita Guleng, siblings; Eduardo (Celedonia), Edmond (Maria Lourdes), Alex (Julieta), Perlita (Tito) all of the Philippines, Nolie (Jennifer) of Toronto, and Rogel (Flora Mae) of Chicago. Known by the nickname of Jojo, he loved cars and cooking and was well loved for his humour and his ability to fix things. GRYBA, Richard Kevin Passed away suddenly on Friday, June 7, 2013 at the age of 49. He is survived by his mother Dora (Roger) Lemmerick, father Rev. Dr. Casey (Char) Gryba and wife Lila Gryba. Richard was predeceased by his step father Wendell Silbernagel (1999), step brother David Silbernagel (1999) and brother Curtis Gryba (2006). STIRLING, NORMAN Born in Big Valley, Alberta October 19, 1925; passed away peacefully at Moog and Friends Hospice House in Penticton June 12, 2013. Norman is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Beverley; daughter, Jackie (Ned) Stewart, granddaughter, Debbie Dunn; grandson, Danny Dunn (Gina); two great grandsons, Carter and Nathan as well as Jackie and Ned's blended family, Tammy, Craig, Rick and their families; nieces, Heather Walton (Keith), Jennifer Arnold (Rod) and Sandy Stirling (Phil); nephew, Robert Stirling (Leslie); brothers in law, Gary Moore (Kathie) and Dennys (MaryAnne) Moore; sisters in law, Margaret and Laurel Asleson and Lori Moore as well as extended family and cousins in Scotland. Norman joined the Navy in 1943 and then he and Beverly married in September 1952. They moved to Chetwynd, BC in 1957 where he operated a hardware store. He was a 50 year member of both Masons and Shriners and was a life member of the Chetwynd Legion since 1958. They retired to Penticton in 1974. A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Penticton Legion (502 Martin St.) Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Padre John Briscall officiating. SANDS, ANNE: May 13, 1924 to June 8, 2013 Atlin, B.C. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Annina (Anne) Sands, following a short stay at the Whitehorse General Hospital. Anne was born May 13, 1924 in Field, B.C., the daughter of Bruno and Fiorina Danielle. Anne met the love of her life, Lyman Duke Sands in Kamloops B.C. in 1954, and they were married May 14, 1955. Shortly thereafter Lyman began work as a B.C. Government Agent. His career took the family to various postings in B.C., including, Barkerville, Vanderhoof, Atlin, Fort St. John, Duncan & finally Penticton. In addition to raising their three children; Sheldon, Leslie, and Randy, Anne worked as an office administrator for a law firm and the B.C. Assessment Bureau. Upon retirement, Anne and Lyman moved to Atlin B.C. where they joined their sons Sheldon and Randy in the running of their business. Anne's greatest joy in life was her family, friends, church, and entertaining. None of us are soon to forget her spaghetti and meatballs, among other things. Anne is survived by her brother Bob (Rita) Danielle and their son Dean; her sons Sheldon (Haley) Sands, and Randy (Cathie) Sands; and her grandchildren; Jamie Sands, Jordan Sands, and Natalie Sands. A service for Anne will be held in Atlin, B.C., on Saturday June 22nd at St. Joseph's Catholic Church 1:00 p.m., followed by a reception at the Atlin Inn. Anne's family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses of Atlin who enabled Anne to remain in her home until it was medically impossible to do so, & to the nurses of W.G.H. who extended wonderful palliative care to Anne in her final weeks. FITZGERALD, Kory (nee Mulrooney) Longtime member of Eckankar and the Eckankar clergy, died peacefully on June 6, 2013 in her 73rd year. Beloved sister, aunt and friend, she touched many lives and was especially close to a number of her nieces, nephews and their children. Born sixth of twelve children to Esmond and Bertha Mulrooney in Gaspe, Quebec. Educated in Montreal and moved west in 1968, living in Vancouver, Langley and finally Penticton. Worked for many years in medical services in Penticton. Kory enjoyed all outdoor activities including sailing, black powder shooting and playing the guitar. She will be greatly missed by her large extended family, her many friends and everyone she touched. A celebration of life will be held later this summer. Special thanks to the staff at Moog & Friends Hospice House for their compassion and care.

STEWART, ROBERT JOHN 1944 to 2013 The family of Robert John Stewart are saddened by his sudden passing on May 31, 2013 in Kelowna, BC. Bob was born in Kamloops, BC to Arthur and Jean Stewart on January 3, 1944. Bob is survived by his nephew Norman Stewart and wife Jacqueline of Kelowna, his niece Ashley Stewart, partner Dany Cloutier and great niece Addison Cloutier of Kamloops and his sister in-law Patricia Stewart also of Kamloops. He leaves behind numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. Bob is also mourned by his very good friends Carl Olsen and Sue Widner of Kelowna and the family will be forever grateful for the great and caring friendship they shared with Bob. Bob leaves behind many other friends and co-workers from OK Builders in Kelowna. Bob is predeceased by his parents and his brother Norman Stewart. Bob and Norman were really close as brothers and shared a great bond and many of the same interests. Bob grew up in Kamloops spending most of his summers on Paul Lake at the family cabin. He graduated from Kamloops Secondary and began working with OK Builders in Kamloops at an early age and later transferred to OK Builders in Kelowna where he was employed until his death. Bob was an avid sportsman and excelled in hockey, baseball and swimming earning many trophies along the way. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, crib and camping with his friends. Bob was a big gentle man, easy to laugh and the first one to lend a helping hand. Bob remained active in sports, especially hockey until late in life and enjoyed riding his bicycle to and from work every day. The family will arrange a Celebration of Life at a later date. We thought of you with love today, But that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday, And the days before that too. We think of you in silence, And often speak your name. All we have are memories, And your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake, With which we will never part. God has you in His keeping, We have you in our hearts. We love you Uncle Bob and will miss you forever.

ZIMMERMANN, Henry Josef Born January 18, 1934 and passed away on June 12, 2013 at the age of 79. Survived by his loving wife Erika of almost 60 years; four sons: Peter, Fred (Gaby) and their children: Philip, Mario and Raoul; Gordon and Allan; brother Franz Zimmermann (Annelise) and sister Aloisia Schaefer (Horst). Henry was an active and busy person. He worked for 32 years at Inland Cement in Edmonton. Henry was owner of the German Magazine Agency (Lesezirkel Zimmermann); his specialty was selling advertising. In his leisure time, he enjoyed Lake Nakamun. Henry's dream of retiring in the Okanagan came true and also spent his winters in Yuma, Arizona. In his last three years, he treasured his time at Missionwood Retirement Resort and loved all the wonderful friendly people there. A special thank you from the family to the Palliative Care Program, the nurses at Kelowna General Hospital and the staff at the Missionwood Retirement Resort. Henry embraced life and everyone around him. His loving sense of humour and kind heart made everyone feel special. BRIGHT, George Keith Passed away 12 June 2013 at Kelowna General Hospital. Keith was born on 24 August 1924 in St. Boswells, Saskatchewan. At age 10, he moved with his family to Vancouver. He served with the Canadian Scottish Regiment in World War II and was wounded in Normandy. Keith had a distinguished career in the real estate and mortgage business in Vancouver. He served as president of the Mortgage Investment Association of B.C. and as president of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers. He moved to Chilliwack in 1975 and later founded the firm of Keith Bright Ltd. He served as president of the Chilliwack Real Estate Board. He was also a director of First Heritage Credit Union, a founding director of Life-Time Learning and was a member of the Chilliwack Rotary Club. Keith and Mary retired to Kelowna in 1998, where they met many new friends. Keith relished his membership in the Global Investment Group and rarely missed the Saturday meetings with his business buddies. Keith is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary. He is also survived by children Howard (Joanne), Deedrea Lewis, Patricia Allaby (Robert), and Pamela Edgar (Jim). He was pre-deceased by his granddaughter Kim Lewis, and is survived by ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, whom he adored, as well as sisters Hazel Stewart and Rosemary Shaw. The family would like to acknowledge the outstanding care Keith received from his family physician, Dr. Marty Steinruck, who was with him right to the end. The funeral will take place at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna on Monday, June 17th at 1:00 pm. CROOKSHANKS, DORIS IRENE January 25, 1914 - June 11, 2013 Doris Irene Crookshanks beloved wife of the late James Eliot Crookshanks, passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of June 11, 2013. She is survived by daughters; Carol, Maureen (Rob), son, Bill (Mardi), granddaughters, Tracy (Chris), Janet (Marcel), great grandson, Lane, brother in law, Mel, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Although failing physically at the age of 99, Doris was bright and alert, interested in life and enjoying participation in conversations. To the last she retained her love of books and reading. She maintained a sense of quiet elegance and dignity and never lost her sense of humor. Memories of time with her will be cherished by all who knew and loved her. Doris will be greatly missed. OSTASH, Sonia (nee Wishinski) October 19, 1917 - June 9, 2013 Sonia died peacefully at Richmond Lions Manor. Survived by her husband Mike Ostash and his loving family, daughter Sylvia Surette (Don Robinson), grandchildren Allan Surette (Monica) and Michelle Surette. Great grandchildren Eric and Veronica Surette, and her sister Doreen Rutka. Sonia was born in Prud'homme, Saskatchewan to Ukrainian immigrants, learning English and French as well as participating in her Ukrainian heritage. She was active in the choir and was very proud when her daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughter carried on in the Ukrainian Culture. Sonia married David Rutka (1914-1977) 1940 in Calder, Saskatchewan and moved to BC in 1944. Sonia was a warm and loving person known for her cheerful outlook. She loved to travel and ran East-West travel in Edmonton for several years. Sonia married Mike Ostash 1990 in Kelowna, BC. She will be remembered fondly by their many friends in the Okanagan. A memorial will be held on June 22, 2013 at 1 pm at the Ukrainian Cultural Centre, 805 East Pender St., Vancouver, BC V6A 1V9.
