VESTRE, Evan Raymond 1932 - 2013 Evan Raymond Vestre passed away on May 22, 2013 at the age of 80 years. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Darlene, his children Linda (& Terry) Brecht, Michael (& Teresa) Vestre, his grandchildren Dyllan, Kayla, Michelle, Jeremy & Steven, as well as his great-grandson Liam, all of Kelowna. Evan was born the youngest of eight children into a Saskatchewan farming family. When he was old enough to help, he worked the land with the rest of the family, until he married Darlene in 1959 and branched out on his own. He and his brother David moved their families to BC in 1964 and attempted to continue the farming lifestyle, but when that proved unsuccessful they moved on to other ventures. He spent many years as a heavy-duty equipment operator and mechanic, but farming was in his blood so when he had the opportunity to return to it (albeit on a much smaller scale) he took it, owning and operating a thriving worm farm until his retirement. Country music, camping, hunting and fishing topped the list of his favorite things, though he will likely be most remembered for the way he was always willing and available to lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors whenever the need arose. His bright smile and the twinkle in his eye will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him. As part of his final wishes, Evan declined having a funeral organized, so his immediate family will instead be hosting a Celebration Of Life open house at the family home. All who would like to share their memories are welcome to attend this informal gathering between noon and 3 pm, Saturday, June 1, 2013. Arrangements entrusted to VALLEYVIEW FUNERAL HOME, Honoured Provider of Dignity Memorial, 250-765-3147. Condolences may be made at www.valleyviewfuneralhome.com

MILROY, John Gordon April 22, 1928 - May 26, 2013 John Gordon Milroy passed away in Westbank, BC at the age of 85 years. Born April 22, 1928, the second son born to Nellie and Gordon Milroy at Powell River, BC. He is survived by his older brother Jim and two younger sisters, Ellen and Elsie. Growing up beside the ocean he developed a lifelong love for the water... spending many happy times on his boat rowing, cruising and fishing with his siblings as happy tagalongs. John often visited the Okanagan working in the orchards of Glenrosa, later coming back to make it home in 1954. He found steady work for two ambitious brothers who had started an upstart company now embedded in the community of Westbank - 'Gorman Bros Lumber'. He continued there until retiring in 1993 at age 65. John met his future wife Marjorie Currie while working at Gormans, and they were married April 16, 1960, followed by 6 children including two sets of twins and later 10 grandchildren. John was saved at age 14 by God's grace receiving Christ as his personal Saviour. He enjoyed many happy years of fellowship with the Christians at Highway Gospel Hall where he faithfully attended the Lord's remembrance meeting and enjoyed hearing the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In John's later retirement years he was happiest surrounded by the love of his family and listening to his favourite hymns. The Lord was very gracious and called John home quickly following a brief illness in which there was no suffering. He passed into the presence of The Lord in the early hours of May 26. We will always hold dear his quiet, reserved and gracious manner and look forward to being with him again in the presence of our Lord. His family would like to thank those that 'cared' & 'loved' him. Pine Acres was his final home and we are very thankful for the loving care provided to him. Funeral to take place Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 10:30 am at the Highway Gospel Hall, 2549 Hebert Road, Westbank, BC. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.mem.com and searching his name under stories. Arrangements entrusted to First Memorial Funeral Services, Kelowna. Ph: 250-762-2299.
