RAYMOND GEORGE BAKER: 1935 – 2013 Ray Baker passed away peacefully at Prairie Valley Lodge in Summerland, surrounded by his family, on April 11, 2013 at the age of 78. Ray is survived by Orma, his wife of 53 years, children, Lisa (Mark Figge), Paula (Doug Davies) and Bruce (Natasha Leighl), grandchildren, Derek, Miranda and Aidan, siblings, Arnold, Doug, Keith, and Lois, nieces, nephews and 'dozens of cousins'. Born at home near Neepawa, Manitoba on March 15, 1935 to Bert and Mabel Baker, Ray spent his childhood doing all the things a farm boy loves. He barbered in Winnipeg for many years until he and Orma bought a farm near Polonia, Manitoba where he established a fine herd of cattle and spent 20 years producing grain and canola. Ray loved to fix things, loved his horses and cattle, enjoyed dancing, western music, travelling, a good Louis L'Amour book, bicycling, camping, storytelling, jalapeno garlic dill pickles, pizza, and ice cream. His patience was boundless--soft spoken and calm, he often cautioned Orma, "Don't get excited." Following retirement, Ray and Orma moved first to Neepawa, then to Penticton where he learned his way around a computer, ran a condo strata, and operated sound systems for Penticton United Church and the TuneAgers. Confronted with a diagnosis of Lewy Body, Ray faced the disease that slowly destroyed his mind and body with fortitude, patience and dignity. He will be sadly missed. Special thanks to the staff and owners of Prairie Valley Lodge in Summerland who offered such caring support during Ray's last weeks. A celebration of life will be held at Penticton United Church, 696 Main Street, Penticton on April 16 at 1 pm. No flowers please. Donations may be made to Penticton United Church or the charity of your choice. Arrangements in care of Everden Rust Funeral Services. Condolences may be shared by visiting www.everdenrust.com

West Kelowna, BC - RICHARD BRUCE CHAMBERS, 95, passed away peacefully in his sleep in his home, on Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Gladys (Fults) Chambers, brother Jim Chambers, and sister Dixie Roy. Survived by his children, Laura Chambers, Anne Bilow, Kevin Chambers (wife Mel White) and Norma Jean Maxwell (husband, Robert Maxwell), grandchildren, Alyssa Chambers, Sherene Betson, Kannon and Ryder Maxwell and step-grandchildren, Samantha, Courtney and Brad White, great-grandchildren Darian Smith-Chambers, Kyra Chambers and Dixie Betson, step great-grandson, Jayten White, sister Lorraine Hatch and brother David Chambers (wife Louise), along with many, many nieces, nephews and friends. He was born in his grandfather's stone house outside Maryfield, Saskatchewan on Feb 13, 1918, the son of Fredrick and Violet Chambers. His early years were spent working hard on the farm. At the age of 15 he and his older brother, Jim moved the family belongings 800 miles to Buriss, in Northern Ontario by horse and wagon where he farmed until leaving home to help support the family. A hardworker, he trained and drove horses, cut pulpwood, dug ditches, guided, worked the iron and gold mines, and a variety of other manual jobs until the war called him to duty. He bravely served in heavy artillery for four years until the war was won. Shortly after he came home he married and had his family. His heart was in farming but eventually he left the farm that he had helped homestead, and went into dredging, moving the family to the West Coast to pursue that career. Upon retirement, he and his wife moved to the Okanagan, an area they were both happy to call home. Bruce was a man of many talents. He was a wonderful, self-taught musician and loved to share his music. He was also a great carpenter and enjoyed working with wood. He loved a game of cards and had an incredible lucky streak! He was notorious for his homemade wines and quick sense of humour. Bruce was a man of honour who loved his family very much and always put them first. He lived his life with integrity and pride. A special thanks to "his girls" at Smith Creek. No immediate memorial service will be held.

BUCKMASTER, Roy With great sadness we announce that Roy Chandler Buckmaster passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the age of 102. He is survived by four loving sons: Archie Buckmaster (Marge, dec.) of Saskatoon, SK, Leslie Buckmaster (Sharon) of Manor, SK, Lee Buckmaster (Pat, Dec.) (Evelyn) of Regina, SK, and Currie Buckmaster (Glenna) of Brownlee, SK; six loving daughters: Heather Pilling (Dale) of Kelowna, BC, Maureen Pokiak (James) of Tuktoyaktuk, NWT, Alice Getz (Gordon) of Regina, SK, Sheila Carnegie (Bill) of Gray, SK, Enid Bailey (Ken Martin) of Kamloops, BC and Brenda Wasacase (Don) of Broadview, Saskatchewan; twenty-seven grandchildren; and thirty-nine great grandchildren. He was sadly predeceased by three grandchildren. Roy grew up on a homestead near Brownlee, SK. In the 1930's he was a cowboy on the "Drowning Ford" ranch, North of Medicine Hat. He married Annie (Ruff) in 1935 - she died with child one year later. He married Evelyn (Sauer) in 1942. They lived and raised their children on a ranch in the Qu'Appelle Valley, north of Eyebrow, SK, until 1967 (when Evelyn passed away). He sold out and moved to Moose Jaw, met Velma Worm during that time and had their child, Brenda. They then moved to Kelowna in 1978 where he lived for the remainder of this life. Our father was an avid reader, always hungry for more knowledge. He worked and played hard, and was well respected in the communities in which he lived and worked. He was active in local and agricultural politics and was mentally and physically active throughout his entire life (swimming, walking, playing pool, reading and writing poetry). We thank Dad for instilling in us his strong sense of moral values, honesty, fairness to all and the virtue of a disciplined lifestyle. Dad will be lovingly remembered and missed by us all.
