SPALL, Doris Eveline March 29, 1922-April 07, 2013 Independent Lady, Mother, Friend, Grandma, Friend, Great Grandma, Aunt, Friend and Cat Fancier died in the early hours of Sunday, April 7th. She was 91. Born in Armstrong, the youngest of four daughters, Doris lived in the Okanagan, a place she loved and happily shared with her five children, each of whom returned during her later years. Doris is survived by her four children, Nancy Branch (Don), Deborah Cochrane (Larry), Lori Perdue, Jamie Spall (Maureen) and son-in-law Henk DeRoos. Grandchildren Tyler Ballam (Sophie), Brett Ballam, Chris Cochrane (Terra), Kelsey Cochrane (boyfriend Jake), Faith and Darci Perdue. Three Great-grandchildren; Jenson Cochrane, Ethan, Emmalyn and special niece Kerri Sutherland as well as the final of her feline companions Penny, who now lives with the Branchs. Doris was saddened by the early deaths of her daughter Jennifer DeRoos, grandson Connor Cochrane and the father of her children, Bob Spall. Doris was an RN, graduating from Royal Columbian in 1945, a career that helped her as well as the many people she helped over her 40 years of nursing. Working on Maternity at KGH, she knew so many of her children's peers and she never forgot anyone, nor was she easily forgotten. Her contagious laugh and smile connected her permanently with the community. Doris excelled at friendship, a trait that came naturally. She made friends easily and once a friend, always a friend. Doris' lifelong special friends, Betty Marsh and Sylvia McTavish will attest to that! She had many close girlfriends whom she cherished as they journeyed through good times and tough times: working, marriage and raising children. Her nursing buddies were gold and she never missed a class re-union, no matter how tight the money or time. For everyone, she loved to find that perfect card. She chose gifts thoughtfully and she loved to write and receive letters. She loved to bake special treats, and did so for a chosen few, year after year. As her eyesight failed in later years, she relied on friends and family to help her with these acts of kindness. The family would like to extend gratitude to the staff at Brookhaven for the love, humanity and care beyond compassion they showed during her time there. The memorial service will be June 8, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. David's Presbyterian Church allowing for far away friends and family to gather. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com 250-860-7077

RAYMOND GEORGE BAKER: 1935 – 2013 Ray Baker passed away peacefully at Prairie Valley Lodge in Summerland, surrounded by his family, on April 11, 2013 at the age of 78. Ray is survived by Orma, his wife of 53 years, children, Lisa (Mark Figge), Paula (Doug Davies) and Bruce (Natasha Leighl), grandchildren, Derek, Miranda and Aidan, siblings, Arnold, Doug, Keith, and Lois, nieces, nephews and 'dozens of cousins'. Born at home near Neepawa, Manitoba on March 15, 1935 to Bert and Mabel Baker, Ray spent his childhood doing all the things a farm boy loves. He barbered in Winnipeg for many years until he and Orma bought a farm near Polonia, Manitoba where he established a fine herd of cattle and spent 20 years producing grain and canola. Ray loved to fix things, loved his horses and cattle, enjoyed dancing, western music, travelling, a good Louis L'Amour book, bicycling, camping, storytelling, jalapeno garlic dill pickles, pizza, and ice cream. His patience was boundless--soft spoken and calm, he often cautioned Orma, "Don't get excited." Following retirement, Ray and Orma moved first to Neepawa, then to Penticton where he learned his way around a computer, ran a condo strata, and operated sound systems for Penticton United Church and the TuneAgers. Confronted with a diagnosis of Lewy Body, Ray faced the disease that slowly destroyed his mind and body with fortitude, patience and dignity. He will be sadly missed. Special thanks to the staff and owners of Prairie Valley Lodge in Summerland who offered such caring support during Ray's last weeks. A celebration of life will be held at Penticton United Church, 696 Main Street, Penticton on April 16 at 1 pm. No flowers please. Donations may be made to Penticton United Church or the charity of your choice. Arrangements in care of Everden Rust Funeral Services. Condolences may be shared by visiting www.everdenrust.com

WRIGHT, Robert H. Oct 7, 1928 - Apr 5, 2013 Robert Wright (Grandpa Bob), born in Muniac, NB, passed away in Penticton, BC after a short battle with cancer. Survived by the love of his life, wife of 56 years, Jean (Prytulka), daughter Kathryn (Jerome), son Kelly (Diana), precious grandchildren Evelyn and Charlotte Cranston, Natalie and Andrew Wright. He is also survived by brother-in-law John Prytulka (Joni) and family. Bob was dealt a tough hand as a child, but he persevered, pulled himself up by the bootstraps and lived a life to be very proud of. As a young man, Bob worked in several industries throughout Canada including forestry, mining and on ships on the Great Lakes, until he found his passion in the trucking industry where he was extremely well-respected and many co-workers became life-long friends. He raised his family in North Vancouver where he gained more enduring frienships, retiring with Jean to Penticton in 1990. In retirement he enjoyed yard work, gardening and creating amazing projects with wood which he often happily donated. He was an avid reader especially of Canadian history and non-fiction. He loved his family: they were always his first priority. His entire family loved him dearly and miss his wonderful stories and his generous helping hand. He was an honest, loyal, hard-working man whose great sense of humour made him the life of the party. Please remember him by sitting down with someone you care about: have a beer, share some laughs, and talk about the good times. No service by request. Cremation. Donations to the Cdn. BLYTH, George Donald September 26, 1930 - April 6, 2013 George Donald Blyth passed away peacefully at Kelowna General Hospital with family at his side on April 6, 2013. He was 82. His wish for cremation respected, George leaves us after a life full with family adventure, travel, close and cherished friends made the world over, laughter and love. Left to mourn is his adored wife and constant companion of 58 years, Sonia (Gran), son David Blyth (Margaret) of Edmonton, and daughter Wendy Blyth (Jeff Loewen) of West Kelowna. Among his grandchildren are Cliff Blyth (Rachel and children), Garrett Blyth (Aaron Rittwage) and Colin Blyth all of Edmonton; and Sean James Stewart of West Kelowna and the Fraser Valley. From the family of George's predeceased brother John Blyth, nieces Ann Blyth and Heather Blyth of Victoria and Comox mourn his passing, as does nephew John Blyth of Victoria. More distant still are members of George's predeceased step-sister Catherine Lucas and the remaining Lucas family members of San Bernardino, California. Born in colonial Colombo, Ceylon to shipping company director Herbert D. Blyth and Beryl Charlotte (Vosper), George would eventually live in many exotic ports of call as a busy commercial pilot. Their easy charm and sense of adventure made George and Sonia favorites among the other young ex-patriate families they met working and living in locales as diverse as Ireland, Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Germany and stints in Asia and the Canadian North. George's children David and Wendy were beneficiaries to a quality of life and travel that can only be alluded to as novel-worthy, for George truly showed his family the world and the many wonders in it. Settling after his career in West Vancouver and then West Kelowna, George loved the Okanagan life, and was happiest spending time at his lovely lake view home with family and friends swapping stories that would often leave his companions gasping with laughter or disbelief. In the end, George was consistently embracing the moment as life's greatest gift. George's life will be happily celebrated, and the reminiscences of friends and family shared, on Friday, May 24th at the West Kelowna Yacht Club, by invitation.
