Witton, Vimy Jane (nee Murray): June 21, 1917 - April 4, 2015 Saturday, April 4, Vimy passed away peacefully at the Hamlets in Kamloops, B.C. at the age of 97 years. Predeceased by her husband Robert in 1994 and by her five sisters, Alice, May, Joan, Cora, and Jessie. Vimy is fondly remembered by her daughters, Eleanor (Trevor, deceased), Janet (Chuck) and son Jim and by her three grandchildren, Jennifer (Alex), Michael (Mimi), Natasha (Gerald) and her great grandsons, Ryder and Wyatt and her many nieces and nephews. Vimy, the third daughter of Frank Murray and Laura Horner Murray, grew up in Kinsella, Alberta. As a young teenager Vimy began working at the Red and White Store, the general store in Kinsella. Vimy had a strong work ethic from an early age. The store was purchased in 1936 by Seth Witton, father of the young man Vimy married in 1938. Robert and his brother Lloyd operated the store together at first. In 1945 Vimy, Robert, and 3-year old Eleanor Ann moved to Zeballos on Vancouver Island. They ran the Zeballos General Store for 31 years and then retired to a much drier climate. While in Zeballos, Vimy became an insurance adjuster and saved all her earnings. Later on, when Robert and Vimy began their world travels she proudly bought the tickets. Vimy and Robert retired to Kelowna in 1977 and began wintering in the southern United States. Generosity to her family and friends was important to Vimy. She highly valued her friendships and made a point of keeping in touch. Vimy was always a well-dressed woman of great class and poise. She was hard-working, strong, and faithful. She was a dedicated bridge player all her life. We extend a special thank-you to the Hamlets in Kamloops and their committed and caring staff. All family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Vimy's Life at 2 pm. Saturday, May 9, at First Memorial Funeral Services at #8-177 Tranquille St., Kamloops, B.C. Cremation has already taken place. Flowers are gratefully declined. If you wish to make a donation in memory of Vimy consider the hospital in your community. Vimy generously supported both the Zeballos Hospital and Kelowna General Hospital. Arrangements entrusted to First Memorial Funeral Services, Kamloops BC (250) 554-2429. ROLSTON, Gary Donald: Sept. 2, 1956 - Apr. 24, 2015. Gary was the third of 12 children born to Therese and Dave Rolston of Summerland, BC. He was raised as a farm boy through and through and continued his passion for agriculture into his professional life. In 1986 he moved to the Comox Valley with his first wife Deb and their children Erik, Abby and Jodi who made themselves at home immediately. He worked tirelessly on his own career, as well as volunteering for numerous boards and committees advocating for agriculture. BRONSWYK, Hendrikus "Henk" Gerardus: February 12, 1932 - April 29, 2015. It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who passed away peacefully on April 29th, 2015 in Vernon Jubilee Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Berendina (Diane) of Vernon; his children: Daniel (Patricia) of Kelowna, Michael of Kelowna, and Rosemary (Hamish) of Vernon.  He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Candace (Mitchell) of Abbotsford, Sheldon and Caele (Vernon), Mariana and Alex (Kelowna); and two great grandchildren, Laryssa and Kiera (Abbotsford). Henk also leaves behind in the Netherlands his two brothers, Toon and Leonard and two sisters, Dora and Haneke. Born in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, Dad was one of 10 children, born into a history of bakers. All five boys in his family followed this hard working occupation.  Dad, a free spirit and one who loved adventure, accompanied his brother to Canada. He spoke very little English but travelled across Canada looking for his place in this new country. He worked at various jobs such as logging camps cooking, farm-worker, truck driver and as a baker. He went back to the Netherlands in 1958 and courted his now wife of 55 years. He convinced his fiance to come to Canada and marry him. Dad was a business-man and baker for life, starting in Castlegar, then eventually opening bakeries in Kamloops, Red Deer, and his hobby bakery in Sicamous. Great times were had driving his van around the Sicamous campgrounds with the siren on his van to announce his arrival. It brought him great joy to see people gather around to buy his baked goods - his sticky buns were a favorite!  Dad always had a sense of humour and was passionate about pursuing what made him happy: flying his glider, travelling to Thailand, Suriname, riding his bike to Jasper and riding his scooter across the backroads of BC to name a few. We will miss you Dad... We always know "You did it Your way". We love you. Funeral Services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8th, 2015 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Coldstream, BC. Father Dale Normandeau, Celebrant. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, Phone: 250 542 4333. Condolences may be offered at www.pleasantvalleyfh.com
