SAUCIER, Kathleen Joan March 30, 1926 - March 29, 2014 A life well lived came to an end for Joan Saucier (nee Butt) of Kamloops and Kelowna, BC. Joan passed away peacefully at the Marjorie Willoughby-Snowden Hospice in Kamloops at 2:12 p.m. on Saturday, March 29th, one day before her 88th birthday surrounded by all her family. Joan was predeceased by husband Bert who passed away in October 2004 and her brothers Doug and Jack Butt. Mum is lovingly remembered by her four children: Laurie (Nejama Ferstman), Alan (Allison Dalgleish), Jill (Alan Sanders) and Kathy (Gary Aldus) and sister Gwen James. Also present at her passing were grandchildren: Julie, Erin, James, Carmen, Harrison, Alexander, Paige, Georgia and Caelan, as well as Jim and Heather Bottoms, Steven Clarke and nephew Jack James. Also left to grieve her passing are Pat Scott, Bob James, her niece and nephew. Mum's passing has left a huge void in all our lives and left us forever changed. Nana wed "Papa" Bert in 1949 in Kelowna, BC and after having her four children, moved to Kamloops in 1963 where she quickly became active in the Kamloops community. Nana endeared herself to all she knew through her kindness, good humour, self-sacrifice and caring. Heavily involved in the lives of her four children, she became close to many of their friends and families as well. Nana was instrumental in the success of the family business in Kamloops and did double duty as a mother and office manager for many years. Her greatest satisfaction was participating in the successes of her children and grandchildren and supporting causes which were dear to her heart: animal welfare, the environment and the CBC among others. Nana touched other people's lives in so many strange and wonderful ways and will live on in their memories and gratitude. The family has so many to thank for their care of mum but would especially like to thank the loving staff at the Marjorie Willoughby-Snowden Hospice, Royal Inland Hospital and in particular doctors Jonat and Hamilton. Additionally, we are forever grateful for the patient and loving care provided by Janice at Community Health and Natalie and Jennifer from Nurse Next Door. A celebration of life will be held at the Parkside Lounge, Interior Savings Centre, 300 Lorne Street, Kamloops, on Saturday, May 3 from 1:30 - 4:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Marjorie Willoughby-Snowden Hospice, the SPCA, the Humane Society, Friends of CBC or the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation. O'BRIAN, CLARENCE "OB" WILBUR April 4, 1918 - March 31, 2014 It is with deep sadness that we announce our dear father's passing on March 31, 2014, in Penticton, BC. He was predeceased by our beautiful mother, Enid, in 1984, and his second wife, Vera, in 2001. He is survived by his daughters, Cherry (James) Calder and Carol (Jack) Woolley; three grandsons, David, Patrick (Houda) and Scott (Tracy) Grier and two great grandchildren, Abigail and Oliver. Born in Vancouver, he was the only child of Helen and Clarence "Sham" O'Brian. He and his Dad shared a love of motor cars that would continue as an ongoing interest throughout his life. Dad served in the army from 1940 to 1945 as an artillery training officer in Esquimalt, B.C. He and Enid were married in Vancouver on October 18, 1942 and both daughters were born there. Immediately after the war he spent a short time working at Vancouver City Hall. From there he went on to work in optometry and then in insurance sales, before finding his true vocation in building management. He was Manager of Park Royal and the Marine Building in Vancouver, then moved to Calgary in 1959 to oversee the building and management of the Elveden House complex. He returned to Vancouver in 1969 to become Vice President and General Manager of Pacific Centre for Cadillac-Fairview. Dad always loved the Okanagan and the family spent many summers there on holiday. In 1975, he and Mom purchased a home in Naramata and they moved there permanently in 1980. Our Dad was an amazing man who charmed everyone with his warmth, humour, and understanding. He gave us unconditional love and support, taught us courage and laughter, integrity and joy. He was so very wise, funny, and gentle - and such a big part of our lives. He will be missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind many dear friends. A special thanks to our dear friend, Carol Rowley, who loved and supported Dad during his last years, and who showed so much care and support to the family in his final days. A Celebration of Dad's Life will be held in June at Naramata Community Church. Closer to the date there will be a notification of time and date. "Fathers hold their children's hands for just a little while...and their hearts forever". Condolences may be shared by visiting www.everdenrust.com

MARTIN, SHIRLEY MARIE Shirley Marie Martin, 79, returned to her Heavenly Father on March 30, 2014 after a serious infection and further complications. Shirley was born on August 12, 1934 in Vulcan, Alberta. She was the daughter of Thomas Richard Martin and Leona May Current. Preceded in death by her father and mother and her brothers, Ronald and Durward. Shirley grew up in several southern Alberta towns as her father worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway. After high school graduation Shirley entered the Canadian Air Force and trained to be a weather observer. She enjoyed her time in the military and especially loved the time she spent in France. Shirley loved to travel and enjoyed learning about many European countries. She returned to Penticton and decided to attend university. Shirley was accepted to Brigham Young University and chose to study Early Childhood Education. She needed to interrupt her studies to come home and care for her father as he struggled with a cancer diagnosis and unfortunate early death. Shirley returned to school after helping her mother and finished her degree. After college Shirley once again returned to Penticton and was introduced to Ben Lane Middio and they married in 1972. They chose to set up their first home in Kelowna. In 1974 she had her only child, Stefanie Jan Jacinda (Middio) Thomsen. Shirley loved children and was a natural mother. Unfortunately she divorced in 1980 and started caring for her child alone returning once again to Penticton. While supporting her family Shirley worked as a social worker and family counselor. Shirley spent the latter part of her life keeping a promise to her father by taking care of her mother as she aged. After her mom's passing in 2005 Shirley enjoyed travelling to Alaska and to Oregon and Atlanta to visit her daughter and grandchildren. She will be remembered as an intelligent, funny, creative and musical spirit. A Memorial Service in her honor will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2946 South Main St., Penticton, on April 9,2014 at 11 am.
