FLOOD, Anne Pauline (A.P.) (Richardson) (nee Punchard) December 3, 1930 - January 6, 2014 Mum was born in London, England and immigrated to Canada in 1956 with her husband, Jack Richardson and three of her seven children. Predeceased by son Michael. Survived by Paul (Susan), Jackie (Les), Julie (Richard), Virginia (Paul), Rose (Ian), Chris (Natalie) thirteen grandchildren, Jill, April, Stuart, Crystal, Bryan, Carly, Stephanie, Kristina, Robbie, Gordie, Alana, Naomi, Blake and eight great grandchildren, Jackson, Sophia, Magnus, Justice, Boston, Soleil, Brayden, and Scarlett. Mum was the loving mother of seven children. Our dear Mum loved gardening, sailing and camping. She also had a love for photography, music and was an avid reader. In earlier years Mum was active in local musicals, choir, horseback riding and tennis. She had a love for animals and was devoted to her dogs, Poppy and Daisy. She was well known in the community for her volunteer time with Our Lady of Grace Parish, Lady Minto Auxiliary and the Power Squadron. Mum was a loyal, supportive, knowledgeable, kind-hearted person who's wisdom and great sense of humour will be dearly missed. Her youthful beauty was admired. Mum lived on Salt Spring Island for 22 years and had a wonderful circle of friends that she loved. She was always active and made frequent trips in her Mustang convertible to Victoria, Vancouver and Kelowna to see her family and friends. Mum passed away peacefully in New Westminster at her daughter Rosie's home where she was surrounded by all of her children. We will miss her very much. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Our Lady of Grace Church, 135 Drake Road, Ganges, Salt Spring Island with Father Frank Franz. MEIER, Charlotte Ella Ruth Went into the arms of the Lord on January 13, 2014 at the age of 93 years. Survived by her son Rae (Gail) of Kelowna; daughter Carol (Bruce) Macdonald of Calgary; five grandchildren: Allison (Marcus), Colleen, Daniel, Bradley and Michael; one great grandson Grayson; sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews. Charlotte found it very sad to be the last surviving member of her family, as she was not the youngest. Predeceased by her parents; her husband Harold; three brothers: John, Herman and Ron; six sisters: Ilsa, Alma, Kate, Carrie, Helen and Emma; as well as an infant son Ronald Harold. Charlotte was born on a farm in Saskatchewan on March 23, 1920. Married at St. John's Lutheran Church on November 22, 1942 at Edenwald, SK. They lived in Balgonie, where she worked at the municipal office. In 1960, they moved to Davidson, where she had several accounting office jobs (Con's Construction, Co-op and the doctor's office). They retired to Saskatoon in 1975, then moved to Kelowna, BC in 1978. Charlotte was a loving and giving woman of God. She was known for her immaculate appearance, always wearing dresses or suits with matching accessories. She loved to entertain and was a gracious hostess. Everyone will remember her for her wonderful cooking and "to die for" baking. Charlotte was talented at knitting, sewing and crocheting. She loved to dance, play bridge and to be with her family and friends, but most of all spoiling her grandchildren. We will miss you Grandma! Special thanks to the staff at both Missionwood and Laurier Manor for their care and kindness. A memorial service will be held this summer. MERO, Dawn Therese August 30, 1967 - January 10, 2014 Dawn passed away January 10, 2014 at the age of 46. She is survived by her daughter Kylea Mero/Murdin and granddaughter Fable, her parents William (Bill) and Margaret Mero, Liane (Bill) Kimmie, Bill (Barb) Mero, Becky (Dale) Hoskyn, John (Rosalyn) Mero, Alana Mero, Bob Mero, Andrina (Gerry) Wessel, Melinda (Richard) Davis, Myra Mero (Cameron McIntyre) and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Dawn was born in Quesnel, BC, she attended the College of New Caledonia and the University of Northern British Columbia graduating in 1998 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Her career in sales saw her live in Quesnel, Kelowna and Prince George. Dawn's love for ancient history, reading and travel brought her great joy. May we be reminded of Dawn in every purple flower we see. MILLAR, LORNA DAISY MARGARET August 23, 1916 - January 13, 2014 Lorna passed away peacefully in her sleep in Penticton, B.C. at the age of 97 years. Beloved wife of the late Jack Millar. Jack was a Winnipeg Police Officer and walked the beat for many years. Lovingly remembered by sisters, Mary Schobinger and Evelyn Huseby of Denver Co; nieces, Coral (Alex) Brown, Penticton, B.C; Mary Lou (Steve) Sumieka, Federal Way, Wa; Julie (Mike) Wagner, Green Valley, AZ; and Marilyn Sutherland, Edmonton, AB; nephews, Michael Huseby (Betsy), Englewood, CO, Graham Huseby (Sue), Avon, Co, Gordon (Joan) Sutherland, Cape Breton Island, NS. Predeceased by nephew John Sutherland. In her younger years Lorna worked at Eaton's in the hosiery department. She was a member of Rivercrest United Church and West St. Paul's Curling Club in Manitoba. Lorna came to Penticton 10 years ago and lived at Sun Village and more recently at Haven Hill Retirement Home and attended Bethel Pentecostal Church. MACGOWAN, Dorothy (nee Wilson) May 25, 1936 - January 13, 2014 It is with great sadness that Dorothy's family announce her passing at the age of 77. Survived by Daniel, her loving husband of 57 years; her sister Mary (Jim), brothers Gerry and Phil (Yvonne) of Alberta, son Robert (Betty) of Kamloops, daughter Linda MacGowan (Paul), and Janet Amundrud (Doug) of Kelowna, grandchildren Mark, Derek, Trevor, Jared, David, Jason, Kyle, Kerri and great-grandson, Kaden. Dorothy was born in Biggar, Saskatchewan and spent her youth in Edgerton, Edmonton and Wainwright, Alberta. After marrying Daniel in 1956 they resided in Calgary, Red Deer, Kitimat and finally Kelowna. Dorothy lived a full and active life. Her passions were curling, where she represented BC in two national play-offs, and golf where she recorded two holes-in-one. Dorothy will be remembered as a caring and dedicated wife, mother and friend. JENISH, John (Jack) Joseph John died peacefully on January 16, 2014 at the Kelowna General Hospital. He was born May 28, 1929 and raised outside of Estevan, Saskatchewan with brother Frank and sisters Shirley (Winterton), deceased and Agnes (Benter), deceased. The family home was adjacent to family-owned Jenish Coal Mining Company - Estevan. John's father, Egne Jenish, and mother, Sophie (Millar), owned and operated the mine with an extended family which had migrated from Lithuania. The mine supplied coal to homes and businesses in south Saskatchewan. John graduated from Estevan Collegiate Institute in 1949 and from the Coyne School of Electronics in Chicago, Illinois on March 19, 1954. After graduation, he returned to Canada, representing a number of industrial and electronics firms, eventually settling with CT Engineering and Premier Industries of Cleveland, Ohio. John met Marilyn Rose Murray in 1961 in Vancouver. After a long-distance courtship, they fell in love and were married in Montreal. They celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary in 2013. The young couple moved to Regina where their family grew: daughter Lisa (Castillo), Lyle and Sandy (nee Calhoun). In 1970 John and Marilyn moved their young family to Kelowna where John designed and built the family home, in the middle of an apple orchard, overlooking the Okanagan Lake. Soon after, Shauna (Kitazaki) was born. Industrious, enthusiastic and opinionated, Jack enjoyed a large group of friends. Football, waterskiing, agriculture, mechanics and business were a passion. He remained involved in his children's and his grandchildren's lives, often travelling to Dallas, Texas, Vancouver and Victoria, BC, to visit Joshua Castillo, Quinn Jenish, Jacob Jenish, Luke Castillo, Isabella Castillo, Noah Calhoun and Jonah Calhoun. John is survived by his loving wife Marilyn, his brother Frank, daughters Lisa and son-in-law Steve, son Lyle and daughter-in law Elizabeth, Sandy and Shauna and son-in-law Dave Kitazaki. He was predeceased by his father Egne on Jan. 28, 1974 and mother Sophie on Feb. 26, 1982. John loved life, family and fun and was happiest on those occasions when they were all together. We wish to thank all the staff at the KGH's trauma ward and floor 4B for their loving care of John and the compassion extended to all family members. We are also so grateful to Dr. Martin Steinruck for his constant care, compassion, empathy and encouragement. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm, Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 839 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna. MEDYNSKI, Walter R. Aug. 7, 1927 - Jan. 7, 2014 Peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, our beloved father and grandfather Wally Medynski passed away at the age of 86 years. Left to cherish his memory are daughters Sandra, Dawn (George) Dierickse and special grandson Daniel; sisters Judy (Laverne) Fox and Olga (Bill) Burma. Wally was predeceased by his wife Laura (Crealock) and brothers Bill, Archie and Stan. Walter was raised in the Okanagan Valley. He began his working career with the railway in BC. After that, he joined the RCAF in 1953 as an Aero Engine Technician. While stationed in Portage la Prairie, he met and married Laura. His career took them to St. Hubert, Ottawa, where they started their family, and Trenton, where Wally retired in 1978 after 25 years in the Air Force. Their next move was to Winnipeg where Wally worked for Boeing until his retirement in 1989. He and Laura then moved to Westbank, BC. Walter returned to Winnipeg in November 2012 to be closer to his family. Over all the years, travel (especially camping) was very important to Wally and his family. He also loved to garden and was proud of his flowers and fruit trees. A celebration of Walter's life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. in Crestview United Church, 316 Hamilton Avenue. Forever loved and missed by his wife of 46 years, Denise (nee Brule), daughter Tanya Wilson, grandchildren Brooklyn and Camille, son-in-law Jim Wilson, and step-grandson Tyler Wilson of Langley, BC, son Blake of Burnaby; step-daughter Mel Hinch (Michael) of Barrie, ON. Also survived by brothers Norman of New Sarepta, AB and Gerry of Surrey, BC. Richard was born March 24, 1937 in New Sarepta, AB to Augusta and Karl Kadatz. Richard received his BC Land Surveyor's Commission in 1981 while working for the Federal Department of Transport and National Defence for whom he served for 31 years. During that time he received commendations from Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by a special Medal; as well as from Prime Ministers Pierre Trudeau and Brian Mulroney. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 19 from 2:00 - 4:00 in the Sandbridge Clubhouse, 3333 S. Main, Penticton, BC. DUGGAN, Dora Irene July 01, 1937 - January 15, 2014 Displaying her characteristic independence and strength, Dora left us on January 15, 2014 after a long and well fought battle with cancer. She leaves behind her husband of 55 years Michael, son Simon (Lesley), daughter Lisa (Andrew) and grandchildren Luke, Kristen and Robin. Dora and Mike immigrated to Canada from Bristol, England and lived in many cities including Calgary, Alberta, Kelowna, British Columbia and most recently Winnipeg, where they were closer to their children and grandchildren. CLARK, J. Elise It is with sorrow that Elise's daughters; Antonie and Nadine announce her passing. Elise was raised in Tofield, Alberta and learned from her parents, Arthur and Edna Torrie the arts of; grace, compassion, hard work and ingenuity. Elise was born and educated in Alberta, and received her R.N. Degree from the University of Alberta in 1951. She married Robert Clark, a career R.C.A.F. Officer in 1953. During their time stationed overseas, their two daughters were born. While raising a young family she added a Diploma in Public Health Nursing from U.B.C. in 1965 to her credentials. The family moved to Kelowna later that same year, where she worked as a Public Health Nurse until 1970. Elise had a passion for protecting the environment, and for public safety, which drove her to become very involved in community affairs. Between 1974 and 1993 she was a Councilor (Alderman/woman/person) for the City of Kelowna. Just a sample of her achievements included: Co-founded Women's Emergency Shelter, Founded first Halfway House, Co-founded first non-profit Day Care Society, Founded Crime Stoppers Program, Initiated 911 Emergency Service in C.O.R.D., Initiated on-road Bicycle lane network, Proposed a Woman of the Year Award be added to Civic Awards, and that it be named after Sarah Donalda Treadgold. She fittingly won that award twenty years later in 1995. Elise survived her mother and father, sister Ruth and husband Robert. Surviving family members include her daughters Antonie Clark of Oliver, BC, Nadine Clark of Kelowna, BC, her brother Bob Torrie of Ladysmith, BC, her brother Jim (Ursula) Torrie of Nanaimo, BC, and her sister Pat Hughes of Millet, AB. There are also many nieces and nephews who will miss their Aunt Elise. A memorial service will take place this coming spring, Elise's favorite time of year. BEAVER, Marilyn Agnes (nee Offenberger)1941-2014 Good Samaritan, wife, mother, sister, friend and lover of life, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Loving wife of Ray Beaver of Edmonton, dear mother of Michael (Theresa) and Shawn (Crystal) of Edmonton, and Shannon (Greg) of Toronto. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Colin, Stephanie, Darren, Erin and Kayleigh and brother Dr. Allan Offenberger and his wife Marg of Edmonton. Marilyn was a graduate nurse of Vancouver General Hospital. Nursing is a caring profession, and Marilyn believed in caring, giving and supporting her family, friends and community. Her leadership skills came easily to her. Marilyn was; President, Registered Nurse's Association of B.C. (Burnaby chapter); President, Beta Sigma Phi (Vancouver and Saskatoon chapter); President, Confederation Club (Kitchener/Waterloo) the year of its 25th anniversary; President, Kitchener/Waterloo Probus Club that same year; Chair, Viennese Ball for the 50th Anniversary Kitchener/Waterloo Symphony; Chair of the Board, First United Church (Waterloo); Board member, K-W Arthritic Society, Committee member, Pastoral Care (Presbytery); Board of Governance, St. Mary's Hospital (Kitchener). Volunteering in her community was also important, where she was involved as; Brownie leader; Red Cross home nurse course instructor for teenagers; Red Cross Blood Donor clinic volunteer; cancer patient driver. She also ran the Health Care Clinic at Beaconsfield High School (Beaconsfield, Quebec), coordinating 14 Registered nurses. Marilyn recently returned to her beloved field of nursing to work at the Optimum Health Clinic, where her nursing skills, compassionate heart, and dedication were put to practice with her clients and coworkers who were like an extended family. Marilyn enjoyed the fellowship of her friends through bridge, local community events, and her speaking club, Probus. At Marilyn's request, there will be no visitation, but please join us for an Evening to Remember and to Celebrate her Life on Monday, January 20 between 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at the South Side Memorial's Reception Centre; 8310-104 Street, Edmonton. DARBY, Gladys "Ruth" Passed away peacefully January 12, 2014 in Abbotsford, BC. She is survived by her brother Barrie, her sister Cathie, her 3 children, Susan (Jim), Jim (Tricia), and Gordon (Linda), 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Ruth grew up in Kelowna where she loved to swim in the summer and ice skate in the winter. She attended nurses training at Vancouver General Hospital before a life long career in nursing. She worked in private practice, at Lions Gate Hospital and in respiratory nursing before she retired. Her interest in Nursing took her to Bella Bella the summer after grade 12 where she met her future husband Jerry (predeceased in 2010). Ruth raised her family In North Vancouver where she enjoyed singing in the church choir as well as operetta performances. She also enjoyed attending her children's' basketball games at Carson Graham and North Van High. As well as in, North Vancouver, Ruth and Jerry lived in Birch Bay, WA, Penticton, BC and Abbotsford. Ruth had a profound effect on all who knew her, especially those nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. There will not be a public service but a private family gathering will be held to celebrate her life. Remembrances can be made to BC Lung.

CATTANI, RITA: Oct. 6, 1929 - Jan. 19, 2014 "If there is any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow human being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again." - William Penn Always looking through young eyes, Mrs. Rita Cattani (nee Westwood), Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma passed away in The Hospice House in Kelowna, BC on Sunday, January 19. An only child, Rita was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 6th, 1929 to Bill and Rita Westwood. Rita is lovingly survived by one son, Joe (Cheryl) of Winnipeg, MB, and five daughters, Rita of Edmonton, AB, Pat (Bob Vance) of Windsor, ON, Roberta (Rick Barrow) of Thunder Bay, ON, Paula of Penticton, BC, and Janet (Graham Williams) of Kelowna, BC, eight grandchildren, Candyce, Darrell, Chantal, Connor, Troy, Julie Rita, Michael and Amy, and two great grand-children, Noelle and Everett. Rita is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Theresa Stortini of Schreiber, ON, Margaret Cattani, of Thunder Bay, ON, and Toni Cattani of Penticton, BC as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Rita was predeceased by her husband, Harold, and her parents, Bill and Rita Westwood. She loved life. She treasured memories. She relished the times spent with her loved ones. All guests were always welcome at her table - the dinner table, the card table, the picnic table, the bingo table. In fact, any table with friends and good stories was a great time for Rita. Rita lived a full and involved life. She has been a member of the Catholic Women's League for 72 years and was a Legion member for 42 years. Prior to her 50 year marriage, Rita served five years as a Pilot Officer and Flying Officer in the RCAF during the Korean War. She married Harold in 1956, and together they lived a full and happy life. Mom and dad had many great years in retirement in Penticton with many cherished memories, friends and neighbours. They will forever rest side by side again, shaded under the beautiful walnut tree overlooking Okanagan Lake. A funeral mass will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 1296 Main Street, Penticton, on Friday, January 24 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive visitors who wish to pay their respects on Thursday, January 23 from 1:00pm - 2:00pm at Everden Rust Funeral Chapel, 1130 Carmi Avenue. CATTANI, RITA: Oct. 6, 1929 - Jan. 19, 2014 "If there is any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow human being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again." - William Penn Always looking through young eyes, Mrs. Rita Cattani (nee Westwood), Mom, Grandma, and Great Grandma passed away in The Hospice House in Kelowna, BC on Sunday, January 19. An only child, Rita was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 6th, 1929 to Bill and Rita Westwood. Rita is lovingly survived by one son, Joe (Cheryl) of Winnipeg, MB, and five daughters, Rita of Edmonton, AB, Pat (Bob Vance) of Windsor, ON, Roberta (Rick Barrow) of Thunder Bay, ON, Paula of Penticton, BC, and Janet (Graham Williams) of Kelowna, BC, eight grandchildren, Candyce, Darrell, Chantal, Connor, Troy, Julie Rita, Michael and Amy, and two great grand-children, Noelle and Everett. Rita is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Theresa Stortini of Schreiber, ON, Margaret Cattani, of Thunder Bay, ON, and Toni Cattani of Penticton, BC as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Rita was predeceased by her husband, Harold, and her parents, Bill and Rita Westwood. She loved life. She treasured memories. She relished the times spent with her loved ones. All guests were always welcome at her table - the dinner table, the card table, the picnic table, the bingo table. In fact, any table with friends and good stories was a great time for Rita. BARBIERI, Alfredo (Pa) Passed away peacefully on January 17th, 2014 after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. Survived by his loving wife of 46 years Lucia; children: twin sons Dennis (Rebecca), Loris (Sheira) and youngest Dario (Rachel); five grandchildren: Olivia, Anthony, Cameron, Luke and Lorenzo. Also survived by his sister Milena (Arturo) and family from Burnaby, brothers and sisters in Italy and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his oldest brother Nicola and nephew Roger. Alfredo moved to Canada in 1966, and returned to Italy in 1968 to marry his fiance Lucia and they settled in Vancouver. Renowned for his voice, Alfredo performed all over western Canada and US winning numerous trophies, becoming known as "the King of Italian Song" in Vancouver. Pa was a very skilled autobody man who loved making wine, hunting, mushrooming, trapshooting and tending to his beautiful garden and vineyard. Alfredo's family would like to thank the community nursing staff, all the staff and volunteers of Hospice House for their wonderful care. Prayers will be held Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014 at 6pm and a Catholic mass will be celebrated Thursday, January 23rd, 2014 at 10:30am at Holy Spirit Parish, 1260 Neptune Road, Kelowna, BC. STILL, Olya Noela Mary 'Noel' nee Laibida: February 24, 1926 - January 19, 2014 Noel Still of Penticton passed away on January 19, 2014 following a surprise illness which turned out to be breast and bone cancer at the age of 87 years. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her daughter Penny-April Dellamater (Tom) of Penticton, son Scott Chyzowski of Langley and his daughters Shae (daughter Jayda) and Brittany, both of Richmond, daughter Candace-May Danforth of Edmonton and her sons Tyler, David, and Zander, and daughter Tamara-June Christensen (Roy) of Kelowna and their son Jonathan and daughter Dailynn (Ian). Noel was born in Vegreville, Alberta in 1926. She moved to Penticton from Sicamous 19 years ago. Noel loved travel, her friends; particularly her Friday morning coffee club. She was a great mother and grandmother. Mother didn't want a service. Please remember her at her most vibrant. Memorial contributions may be made to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation, Penticton Regional Hospital Priority Equipment Fund.
