HARLOCK, PATRICIA "PADDY" MAY March 04, 1927- December 07, 2013 With heavy hearts we announce the sudden, but peaceful passing of our beautiful mother, Patricia (Paddy) May Harlock on December 7th. Our Mom has left a legacy of love and blessed us all with her joy of life. This legacy will live on with her children and grandchildren. Her husband, Jack, is left with wonderful memories of their boating and traveling adventures. Paddy was surrounded by family and the love of her life, (Jack) who was holding her hand to the very end. Paddy will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 67 years Jack (Dude) Harlock, her 2 daughters Julie (Patrick)Laughton, Trudy (Jay) Mervyn, her grandchildren Trevor (Clare) Mervyn, Matthew Laughton, Erin (Shawn) Lawley, and her best friend of 86 years Patricia (Aunty Pat) Vatne of Victoria. Mom especially enjoyed time spent with her great grandchildren, Hailey Lawley, Seth, Addison, Matea Bosse. At her request there will be no service, but a Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring. Jack and family especially want to thank the Drs and nurses in Emergency at the Penticton Regional Hospital, especially Olivia Campbell. Donations can be made to the charities of your choice. KNAPP, Esther Lucille Passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at the age of 90. Survived by her loving husband Clarence, two sisters, Irene and Ruth, four children, Grace (Robert), Dave (Delight), Nancy (Henry), Dan (Kathy), twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Lucille was a faithful, loving wife and mother, also devoted to her Saviour and Lord by serving Him as a missionary both in West Africa and Canada. WELDER, Ruth Alice (nee Redlich) Went to be with the Lord with family by her side on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the age of 80. Survived by her loving family, four sons: Bill (Gert), Doug (Anne), Mickey (Jamie), John (Debbie); Laurelee Nelson all of Kelowna; eleven grandchildren: Dave (Shannon), Rhonda (Tom), Denise (Amr), Jen (Andy), Mel (Paul), Ashley (Jarrett), Tom (Kristy), Brad (Roz), Jessica (Dillon), Evan (Brittany), Danielle (Justin); eleven great grandchildren, soon to be thirteen, whom she loved dearly. Special niece Nicole (Gary) Eastman, brothers: Albert, George (Glenna), Hank (Linda), Bill (Jan); sisters: Ellie (Abe) Giesbrecht, Agnes (Hugo) Stuerle, Edie (Glenn) Hagen; brothers-in-law: Francis Blackman, Ed (Diane) Poirier; sisters-in law Lillian Redlich, Ellen (Jim) Woodward and numerous nieces and nephews. Sadly predeceased by her parents: Herman and Susanna Redlich; husband Vic; brother Jerry Redlich, brothers-in-law Fred Heffke, Len Welder; sister Lily Blackman and sisters-in-law Tina Redlich, Rose Poirier; niece Lorie Poirier. Ruth was born in Forestburg, AB in 1933 and came to Kelowna in 1936 with her family, settling in the Black Mountain area. She married Vic Welder in 1951 and they raised their family in Kelowna. In 1979 they developed Mission Creek Golf Course. Ruth will be remembered for her love of nature, travelling, figure skating and her painting. Her family was dear to her and she loved spending time with her great grandchildren, "the little people" who had a very special place in her heart. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 11:00 am at Trinity Baptist Church, 1905 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC with Rev. Dr. Gordon Fletcher officiating. VIEIRA, ETELVINA (nee Cota) December 18, 1918 - December 8, 2013 Passed away with her family by her side on December 8, 2013 at the age of 94 years, fifty-three years after she arrived in Canada. She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Mario Vieira of Penticton, BC, and her daughter, Maria Natal (Mark) Wiseman of Penticton, BC. van den Hoek, Johannes "Joe" September 29, 1932 - December 7, 2013 With great sadness, we announce that on Saturday December 7, 2013, Joe van den Hoek passed away at the age of 81 years. Joe was predeceased by his father Jan van den Hoek, his mother Janneke (Riemens) van den Hoek, his sisters Maria van den Hoek and Janneke (van den Hoek) de Glopper. Joe will be forever loved by his wife Ria, his daughters Sonja van den Hoek (Jim), Dianne Clifton (Brad), Freda McLean (Doug) and his six grandchildren Joel, Ashley, John Ross, Marla, Taylor and Carey. Joe was born in den Helder, Holland in 1932. He immigrated to Canada in 1948 with his father, step-mother, and step-brother. His sister immigrated a few years later in 1950 with her family. As a young teenager, Joe worked doing various jobs, such as a ranch hand, on the railway and then as a miner. On October 22, 1954, Joe married the love of his life, Ria. Together, in 1970, they bought the family home with an orchard in Keremeos, BC to raise their three daughters. Joe was an orchardist for over 40 years and a miner for over 30. Joe enjoyed camping, fishing, skating, watching soccer and hockey on TV. He was a jack of all trades and willing to help others. He devoted his love, time and energy to his family, especially to his wife Ria. Dad loved her with all his heart for the 59 years that they were married. Joe also had a love for animals, especially dogs. There was never a time during Joe's life that he did not have a dog or two at his side. Joe will be forever remembered for his kind and gentle demeanor. Interment will be held at the Keremeos Cemetery on Liddicoat Road, on Monday December 16, 2013 at 1pm. In celebration of Joe's life a tea will be held at the Keremeos Elks Hall, Veterans Avenue Keremeos BC at 2pm. YATES, Peter, Douglas April 6, 1954 - December 10, 2013 Traveler. Teacher. Mentor. Peter passed away peacefully at his Cobble Hill home after treatment for Lymphoma. Born in Chemainus and raised in Penticton. Predeceased by parents Douglas and Bibsy Yates. Leaving behind wife Joanne, daughters Aly and Lizzie, and faithful dog Rug(by). Also families of brother Norman (Wendy), Andrew, Robin and their mother Adrienne; brother Michael (Jul), Dru, Jana, Kristin; sister Janine (Keith), Claire (Peno), Erin, Marten. Peter began his world travels as an Outward Bound instructor in Keremeos and New Zealand. He held degrees in education: B.Ed (UBC) and a Masters in Leadership Training. While at UBC, he was a successful varsity rower and then coach. He had a career at Shawnigan Lake School teaching English, coaching rowing and instructing outdoor education, including fast water rescue. He spent many summers as a river guide on remote BC rivers. At Shawnigan, he developed a youth leadership program through hands on projects in developing nations. As a legacy, the Peter Yates Centre now stands at Shawnigan Lake School as a centre for leadership and international study. His life will be celebrated by his many friends, colleagues and teammates at Shawnigan Lake School at a later date in February.

JELINIC, Nada Passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the age of 80. Survived by her loving husband Ivan, of 51 years; son Gordon Jelinic of Ottawa; two daughters: Anita Donovan (Gary) of Canmore, Wendy Jelinic of Calgary; two sisters: Mira and Danica both of Zagreb, Croatia. Nada was born on July 6, 1933 in Zagreb, Croatia. She immigrated to Canada in 1962. Nada and Ivan lived in Terrace where they started their family. They then moved to Kelowna in 1970. She will be missed by family and many friends for her sense of humour and her fantastic cooking. Nada's family would like to thank all the staff of Hospice House for their wonderful care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 19th at 10:30 am from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 839 Sutherland Ave., Kelowna, BC. Interment to follow in the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery. NEWMAN, FLORENCE MARY Born December 28, 1919, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2013 at the age of 93. Mom grew up on the farm her parents homesteaded in Sullivan, Surrey, BC. Mary was predeceased by her husband Eric in 1997. She is sadly missed by her daughter Alice and her husband Roland, her son Ken and his wife Anne, 5 granddaughters; Sandra (Tim), Beverly (Scott), Trina, Janice, and Kara (Steve), 8 great-grandchildren; Frank, Steve, William, James, Eric, Rian, Deklan, and Schuyler. As an Air Force wife, Mom supported Dad in his career and they were stationed in various bases in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. After their retirement Mom and Dad settled in Hope, BC. They loved to travel in their trailer and the Cessna all over BC. A few years after Dad's passing, Mom moved to Penticton and spent her last few years living in Concorde Place. She loved watching the planes take off and her Sunday drives with an ice cream stop at Tickleberries or Summerland Sweets. A celebration of Mom's life will be held in the spring. KING, Brian After a brave and heroic struggle with illness, Brian passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2013 in the Central Okanagan Hospice in Kelowna, BC. His mother, Blanche and father, Alex predeceased him. Brian had the comfort of the presence of his sister, Linda Savage of Paris, Ontario, as well as his younger brother, Michael (Mike) and Mike's wife, Rose at his bedside both in Kelowna General Hospital and the Central Okanagan Hospice, during the last few weeks of his life. Brian is survived by his daughter, Lisa and his two granddaughters, Haley and Sommer; son Brian Jr.; elder sister, Barbara (Bruce); Michael (Rose); Linda (Bob); Brenda (Norm) and John. Brian treasured his cousin, Shirley Watson, also of Ayre, Ontario and spent many hours on the phone with her and during his trips back to Ontario. A celebration of Brian's life will be held on Tuesday, December 17th at 10:30 am at Evangel Church, 3261 Gordon Drive, Kelowna, BC, with Pastor Don Richmond officiating. A reception for fellowship and sharing memories of Brian will follow. Brian resided at Ozanam House for two years when he first came to Kelowna in 2007. NEWALL, Marjorie Eileen Passed away on December 12, 2013 at the Kelowna General Hospital after a brief and sudden illness. She was 84 years young. Marge was predeceased by Ian Newall, her husband of 41 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Trudy (Jens) Olsen of Burlington, Ontario; Scott (Kim) Newall and Robyn Wilton of Westbank, B.C. Loved forever and always by her seven grandchildren Karyn (Derek) Olsen-Zicari, Kayli (Shaun) Kozlowsky, Michael Olsen, Christopher (Jamie) Newall, Kevin (Ashley) Newall and Megan and Caitlin Wilton as well as by her dear great-grandchildren, Seth and Peyton Newall. Earl William Matheson Aug. 22, 1926 - Dec. 14, 2013 Survived by his wife Helen, sons Rick (Allene), Brian (Eileen), Scott as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Earl was employed his whole life with CN Rail. He retired as Superintendent of Terminals BC North Division. Earl had many great friends who knew him as the "marmalade man".
