MITCHELL, Dolores Dee (nee Appleby) Born January 18, 1929 in the town of Hope and died July 5, 2013 in Kelowna. Dee lived all of her life in British Columbia, marrying her loving husband Ben in Invermere in December of 1950 before Ben's long career in the B.C. Forest Service took the family all over British Columbia. Along the way Dee acquired four children and her teaching degree, going on to teach both in elementary schools and adult ESL courses. Their love of travel took them all over the world but they always returned to their favourite place in the world, their home, British Columbia. Ben and Dee made friends in towns and cities throughout British Columbia from Quesnel to Nelson to Cranbrook to Prince George to Victoria and most of the small forestry towns in between, before retiring in Kelowna. Dee was predeceased by her parents Beatrice and Gordon Appleby, her brother Norman Miles, her sister Shirley-Mae and Shirley's husband Fred Hunt. Dee's beloved husband Ben passed in January of 1999 and her loving daughter Hali Maureen Theresa (Terri) far too soon in March of 1999. Dee is survived by her three sons Christopher Jon of Salmon Arm, Stephen Patrick (Sheilagh) of Golden, Gary Scott (Betty) of Surrey and three grandchildren, Sarah Thorn, Aaron Thorn (Tracy) and Rae-Anne Mitchell (Ryan). She also leaves three great grandsons, her son-in-law Barry Thorn, brother Robin (Linda) sister Cynthia Gay, her much loved foster son Skip Huckin (Danielle) and her favourite nephews, Darcy, Ron and Dale Hunt. Dee will be sorely missed by her numerous friends throughout British Columbia and her kind and generous neighbours in Kelowna, especially Lexington Court. Bob and Grace helped Dee to be independent to the end and the family is forever in their debt. The family would also like to thank both Dr. Michael Appleby and his uncle, Dr. Lyon Appleby for their skill and compassion handling the Mitchell family medical needs all these years. The whole Mitchell family would like to express our love and gratitude to our very dear family friends Cathy Hamilton and Joyce Niessen as well as their departed husbands Tom and Lindsey for all their help and love over the years. We would also extend our deepest thanks to Valerie Beckman for being a source of inspiration for us all, and especially Dee in her time of need. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, July 15, Twelve Noon at Saint Charles Garnier Church, 3645 Benvoulin Road, Kelowna. Reception and then Interment to follow immediately. All are invited to witness Ben and Dee being together again forever at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery. As the staff, nurses and doctors at Kelowna General Hospital unfailingly provided the Mitchell family with solace and care for decades, we would like to ask that donations be made to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation, 2268 Pandosy Street, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 1T2 or a charity of your choice in Dee's name.
