Gladys was the second child (of five) born to Thor and Thea Hesla who immigrated from Norway via North Dakota to Saskatchewan to farm in 1908. She married Earle Prime May 21, 1943 - they operated the Kyle Hotel in Kyle, Sask - born to them were Raymond and Gloria Prime - Earle died in 1947 and Gladys continued to operate the hotel until she met Joe Koenig - they were married Sept. 23, 1950 - and soon identical twin boys were born - Glen and Gary Koenig. Galdys, Joe and the family moved to Penticton in 1952, where they owned and operated the Skaha Lake Motel and store for sixteen and a half years. Gladys was a hard worker and worked at various convenient stores well into her sixties. In her retirement she enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren and playing cards. DEWAR, HARRY EASTON: August 3, 1922 - March 8, 2015. After 92.5 active years, Harry passed away peacefully in Kelowna to join his beloved Frances. Harry's children (the five b's), Brian, Beverley, Barry, Brent and Barbara were all with him and together for his passing. Harry is not only survived by his five children, but eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and thirteen family-in-laws. Harry enjoyed his family immensely. Harry was born in Drake, Saskatchewan as the eldest child of Harry and Violet Dewar, and was an avid hockey player in his youth. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940 as a pilot and married Frances in the St Alphonsus Church in North Ormesby, England on March 11, 1944. Harry earned his Bachelor of Education degree from the University of British Columbia and started his nearly 40 year career in education, spending time in Burnaby, Dawson Creek, Duncan and Kelowna B.C. He was the high school principal of Kelowna Senior Secondary (KSS) from 1971 to 1984. All who knew Harry will remember his love for education, teaching and providing an opportunity for those who might not otherwise get a second chance in life. Harry was a co-founder of COBBS in 1972 with his colleagues Ken Harding, Rosemary King and Lou Dedinsky, which has provided financial support and assistance to the high school students of the Central Okanagan District 23 for the past forty-three years. Special thanks to his many colleagues and friends who kept Harry involved and engaged in education for nearly 30 years past his official retirement. Harry incorporated his love for teaching with his love for curling. One of Harry's passions was to introduce junior curling wherever he lived, whether that be introducing the sport to both the casual or avid curler, some of which went on to become Canadian and World Champions. Harry was able to live an active life in his family home during his later years, and was blessed to have his grand-daughter in law, Kim Solotki and great-grandchildren Zoe and Tegan to share his home, providing a great quality of life, while allowing Harry to enjoy his favorite sports of curling, Blue Jays baseball and Canucks hockey. Special thanks to Dr. Chamberlain, his family physician and the nurses and staff at Kelowna General Hospital. A celebration of Harry's life will be held at 4:00 PM, Thursday, March 26th, 2015, at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna BC, with a Mass to follow on Friday March 27, 2015 at 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 839 Sutherland Ave, Kelowna, followed by interment. PETERS, Esther Marjorie (Bakstad): March 3, 1925-March 12, 2015. It is with sadness that we announce that Esther passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 12th at Kelowna General Hospital at the age of 90. She is survived by her daughter Yvonne (John) Baumer, grandchildren Jason (Sarah), Ryan(Mya) and Georgia her three great-grandchildren Mateya, Devyn and Treian will miss their "G.G." Brother Clifford (Helen) and numerous nieces and nephews in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Frank in 2000, daughter Karen in 1971, her parents Mathias and Hilda Bakstad, brother Lyle, sister Elvina, niece Linda. Esther was the 1st baby born in the hamlet of La Glace, Alta on March 3, 1925. She was schooled and worked in this Norwegian community until 1945 when she went to teach school in the Dawson Creek, BC area. This is where she met her husband Frank and they were married in 1947. In the spring of 1949 they started their long career on the Alaska Hwy. raising their two daughters in Dawson Creek, Prophet River, Muncho Lake and then moving to Watson Lake, Y.T., in 1963. She made many lifelong friends during these years and was known to many as their "extra grandma". It was in Watson where she started working for CIBC and she continued with them until she and Frank retired back to La Glace in 1981 to care for her mom and be near many relatives. Esther enjoyed activities with the Calvary Lutheran Church, the Twilite Club and the Community of La Glace. She loved working on family history, cooking, curling, playing cards, knitting and quilting (many of us have one of her handmade treasures) and 5th wheeling especially when her grandchildren were with them. After Frank's passing in 2000 Esther moved into Grande Prairie and then in 2006 moved to West Kelowna to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She loved being able to spend more time visiting with her grandchildren and her 3 great grandchildren brought her such joy. She loved seeing the blossoms and fruit growing on the trees, the harvesting of the wine grapes and enjoying lunches with the Happiness Group at Grace Lutheran Church. Sadly in the last years Esther suffered from neuralgia (from Shingles) and dementia. We will miss her loving smile, her easy way, and her humour and laughter that touched all who knew her. A special thank you to Pastor Ed Skutshek, Pastor Dave Wunderlich for their visits and prayers, Dr. A Hugo and the staff of 4East at KGH for her care. A memorial will be announced at a later date at which time her ashes will be laid to rest beside her husband and daughter in the Alaska Hwy Cemetery in Dawson Creek, B.C. In Remembrance donations may be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church (La Glace, Alta), Cancer Society or the Alzheimer Society. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.springfieldfuneralhome.com, 250-860-7077.

Amy Elizabeth was born on 30 May 1920 in the district of Whitehead, Alexander, Manitoba to Thomas and Katherine Humphreys. Betty was very proud of her Welsh heritage, and never missed an opportunity to identify herself with these roots. She married Frank Haig Tywhitt Burton on 1 July 1940 in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. As the wife of a career RCAF man, Betty told many stories about her experiences with the "unpredictable" living conditions during, and after WWII, as she and her husband were posted to various military bases in Canada. Amy Elizabeth is predeceased by her two sons, Richard Haig Burton (Margaret) (1978) and Lloyd Graydon Burton (Susan) (2005) as well as her husband (1992). She is sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law Margaret; her two grandsons Richard Thomas (Michelle), and John Joseph Francis; her granddaughter, Anita Dale (Cronan), as well as a number of great-grandchildren. Betty's smile and jovial manner will also be greatly missed by her nephews, cousins, and friends. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.
