FLETCHER, Hilma Clara (Johnson): Born October 24th, 1925 Mortlach, Sask. With sadness, we announce that Hilma Fletcher passed away peacefully at Westview / Penticton Hospital, January 20th, 2015 at the age of 89. A weak heart and a short battle with cancer. She spent her last 32 years in Penticton. She will be interned at Murrayville Cemetery in Langley, BC at the family plot. She was predeceased by her mother 1953, brother 1970, father 1970, sister 1984. Many thanks to all that cared for Hilma over the years. McNARY, Brenda Mable: December 30, 1925 to February 2, 2015 We regret to announce the passing of Brenda McNary. Brenda was predeceased by her husband Allen and granddaughter Tracy. She will be sadly missed by her three children, Brock McNary (Wilma), Sheryl Brown (Al), Wynone Omilusik (Lee), seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She had a very successful teaching career starting in Chase and ending in Silver Creek. Her memorial service will be held at 10241 Bottom Wood Lake Rd., Winfield, BC on February 21, 2015 at 1:00 pm.

DOSANJH, Sukhdarshan Singh: Passed away on February 10, 2015 at the age of 61. Survived by his loving wife Satwant Dhesi; daughters: Nancy Houston (Tom), Pinder Dhaliwal (Nav), Manpreet Cody (James) and Shivy Dhesi; five grandchildren: Tegan, Noah, Suhana, Jovan and Aisley. Sukhdarshan had a kind soul and a loving heart. One of his greatest joys in life was being with his grandchildren. He loved to tell stories, play music and had a funny sense of humour - always finding a way to make everyone laugh. His lively spirit will be deeply missed. He was a great man and most of all the best papa to his grandchildren. STICKNEY, Florence Anne: Anne passed quietly on Friday, February 13, 2015 at the age of 99 at Trinity Care Centre in Penticton. Born in Horely Surrey England on July 28, 1915 the 4th child of 9. She is survived by her sisters Cicely of Australia and Marjorie of England. Anne was married in England in 1942 as War Bride to Gordon Henry and immigrated to Canada in 1946. Survived by three sons; Leslie (Marie), David (Donna) Doug (Joan), 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Anne and Gordon moved to Penticton in 1950 where they enjoyed great times fishing and hunting until Gordon's death in 1987. Anne was a volunteer of the Penticton Boys Club and was instrumental in the formation of the first Caregivers Support group in Canada in 1983, which she remained active with for 20 years. Anne was also a member of the Penticton War Brides Association. She leaves a legacy of kindness; always willing to listen to or tell a story, help a friend and support where support was needed. She touched the lives of many in her 99 years. Family and friends will gather in July to celebrate her "would be" 100th birthday.

COOPER, Esther Laurena: Mar 11, 1918 - Feb 9, 2015 Esther died just short of her 97th birthday at the Penticton Hamlets, where she resided since 2007. She was the last of 14 siblings born to John and Alma Walker. Esther was predeceased by her son Philip William (Bill) in 1979 and randson Tyson Specht in 2008. She is survived by daughter Sheron Specht, son-in-law Don, grandchildren Alexa Easton (Alan), Ashley Cooper and Gene Cooper and great grandchildren Kaitlyn and Nicola Easton, Madison and Payton Cooper. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Many thanks to Esther`s special doctor, Richard Tatham, who quite literally restored her to enjoyment of life in 2007 by recognizing and effectively treating the little known infection she had then contracted. Her grateful family especially commends the care aides, nurses, and other staff at the Hamlets for their loving, kind and compassionate care of Esther. No service at Esther's request. EWINGS, Audrey: September 5, 1923 - February 6, 2015. After a courageous battle, Audrey fought till she could fight no more. Passing away at David Lloyd Jones Home at the age of 91. Born in Regina, Sask, in 1923, she moved with her family to Vancouver in 1939. Where in 1943 she married Thomas Ewings (RCAF) and moved to Needles, BC in 1946. They operated both the gas station and the Post Office. Due to the flooding of the Arrow Lakes, the family moved to Kelowna in 1966. Audrey worked at the Post Office then at Simpson Sears. Retiring in 1986. Music was important in Audrey's life. She had a wonderful singing voice, and sang at many functions. She was also a member of St. Pauls United Church choir for more than 40 years. Equally as important was her membership in the Royal Canadian Legion, Ladies Auxiliary, joining in Edgewood, 1946. Tranfer to Kelowna. She served the Branch and the Community for over 66 years. She served four terms as L.A. President, and two terms as L.A. Zone Commander. Predeceased by her husband Thom, brother Ernie, sister Elaine & Don, sister Vera & Ralph. Survived by her son Michael, daughter Heather, two grandchildren, Josh (Jess) and Hannah, two cousins Shirley and Lorna, two nephews Dennis (Marci) and Murray (Judy) and their families. As well as many relatives on the Ewings side of the family. As Audrey "lived" for 7 months at Kelowna Hospice House, a huge Thank you to the staff for their loving care while she was there. She then moved to David Lloyd Jones, where she was well looked after by the caring staff. And thanks to Dr. Eliason for the many years he cared for both her and Thom. No funeral, by request. PETRETTA, Maria: Passed away on Friday, February 6, 2015 at the age of 89. Survived by her loving family, daughters Diana Petretta and Franca Tadman; son Tony Petretta; grandchildren: Aline, Michael, Kayleen (Jamie), great granddaughter Sophia; sister Sabina Dapavo; nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Domenico. Born in Italy, Maria arrived in Canada in 1955. She worked very hard with her husband in the family orchard for many years. She then worked at the Prestige Inn from which she retired in 1996. Maria was an excellent cook and the home was always full of friends and family. She will be sorely missed by all who loved her. A very special thank you to the staff at Mountainview Village for all the love and compassion given to mom while she lived there for five years. Prayers will be recited on Wednesday, February 11th at 7:00 pm and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 12th at 11:00 am both at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1077 Fuller Avenue, Kelowna, BC with Father Francis dela Cruz as Celebrant. Byland, Katie: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Katherine Brigitta Byland on February 7, 2015, surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with cancer. Katherine was born in Palanka, Yugoslavia on September 18, 1935. After an idyllic childhood she soon felt the ravages of WW ll and lost both her parents by the age of ten. She immigrated to Canada in 1949 with her younger sister Anna, arriving in Kelowna where she had family. She met Adrian Byland while working at a cafe and they married in 1956, starting a fledging business that would become Byland's Nurseries. Katherine is survived by son John (Maria), daughter Anita Thorsen (Rico), grandchildren Michael, Melanie, Venessa and Jordan and sister Anna (Dennis) Brown. She was predeceased by her husband Adrian in 1982. The family would like to thank all the health care professionals that cared for Katherine especially the staff at Hospice House. Donations in Katie's memory can be made to the Central Okanagan Hospice Association - Hospice House, 2035 Ethel Street, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 2Z6. SMITH, Constance Lily: Passed away peacefully on February 12, 2015 at the age of 93. Connie is lovingly remembered by her son Mark, daughter-in-law Mary, daughter-in-law Donna (Glen Todd), nieces Kelly Johnson and Dan, Rae Killoran and Guy, grandson Ryan Utigard and Monika, granddaughters Shannon Bliss and Richard, Jennifer Leisch, Nicole Leisch (Brian Hutch), and great-grandchildren Livia, Quinna, Kael, Avery, Brent, Ty, Brody and Gavin. Connie was predeceased by her loving husband Gordon and her oldest son Farley. Born in Vantage, Saskatchewan on November 29, 1921, she learned to play the piano at a young age and travelled by train throughout rural Saskatchewan teaching piano lessons, accompanying singers, and playing the organ in the Church. In 1947 Connie and Gord moved to Kelowna where she was very involved with Theatre Kelowna as well as teaching Kelowna children piano, music theory and history and was the organist at the two United Churches. Both Connie and Gord were very involved with the Kelowna Lion's Club as well. She took up golf and eventually became President of the B.C. Ladies Golf Association. An avid gardener, Connie grew the most beautiful roses. She was an ardent quilt maker, sewing everything by hand, and she knit sweaters, scarves and mittens for all the kids - always putting nickels in the thumbs for good luck. Many thanks to Dr. and Bev Loken, the Kingwells, the staff at Cottonwoods, the staff at Westwood Retirement Residence and a special thank you to the caregivers at Brookhaven for the loving care they gave Connie in her last year. There will be no service by request but, as Connie was a dog lover, never being without a loyal English Setter or Cocker Spaniel, please make a donation to the Kelowna S.P.C.A. in her memory.

SANDERSON, Keith: Leonard Keith Sanderson took his final flight on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. He is survived by Jacqueline, his loving wife of 62 years and beloved daughter Jennifer (Ron) Woods and beloved son Richard (Andrea) Sanderson as well as his two dearly loved grandchildren, Scott and Laura Sanderson. He will also be mourned by Carmen Sanderson. Keith was born in Edmonton Alberta on July 24, 1931. In 1952 he married Jacqueline (Jackie) Seifert and in 1953 he embarked on a flying career. He and Jackie retired to Arbutus Ridge on Vancouver Island. Keith was an accomplished musician and artist. He loved boating and enjoyed exploring the Gulf Islands and San Juans with his family, introducing his two grandchildren to his favorite islands. His final move was to Kelowna where he continued to express his love of music with the Little Big Band. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 20, 2015 at 10:00 am at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Rd, Kelowna, BC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Association of Kelowna as well as the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. SERVICE, Lester John: Feb 2, 1946 - Feb 13, 2015 With family and close friend by his side, Lester Service passed away on Friday, February 13 after a long battle with cancer. Lester will be forever remembered by his soulmate and best friend Donna; his children Robert, Robyn (Edwin), and Thomas; his brothers & sisters Trevor (Valerie), Irene (John), David (Yvonne), Linda (Greg), Lesley (John), and stepfather John Hall. He is predeceased by his parents George & Thelma, sister Nolene (Lester) and infant brother Allan. Les will always hold a special place in Hayden, Maiya and Kenny's hearts as their poppa, and to all of his many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Born in Invercargill New Zealand, Lester's love for adventure and exploring led him across the ocean to Canada in 1967. He was 21 years old dreamed of the Rocky Mountains, American cars, and a continent of endless possibilities. Lester was a dreamer and what helped make him so special was that he was never afraid to follow and achieve those dreams. He was an entrepreneur-owning several unique businesses over the years. Dedicated to community service, he was as an active Rotarian for over 30 years. In addition to travelling the world, Les's true life passion was his British bikes. He was a motorcycle master who learnt from the best in the world—Burt Munro. To everyone who knew him, Lester was a kind and loyal friend who touched so many lives. A celebration of Lester's wonderful life will be held on Friday, February 20th at 3:00pm at the Penticton Ramada. Please wear your red socks and bring your special memories to share.
