HAAS, Otto It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of beloved husband, father and grandfather Otto F. Haas on August 17th, 2014 surrounded by his family. Born on December 5th 1920 in Mistelbach Austria. Otto spent his early years in Vienna, immigrating to Canada with his wife and child in 1953. He lived in Woodbridge, Ontario until 2008 when he moved to West Kelowna. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Josefine Haas and his two daughters Gabriele Haas Pederson (Lloyd) and Karin Waggoner (Douglas), his four grandchildren Jessica Haist (Ian McEleney), Stefanie Haist (Ryan Apperley), Reed Waggoner, Morgan Waggoner as well as a loving, extended family in Canada, the United States and Austria. Otto will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and his love for life. He enjoyed fly fishing, dancing, keeping up on current events and time with the family. He was a lifetime member of ASHRAE. Otto's life will be celebrated at a private family service. Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting www.hansonsfuneral.ca. APPLETON, James Robert Passed away on August 16, 2014 at the age of 73. Survived by his loving family, two daughters: Tracy Allan (Mike), Kim Proulx (Brent); son Shawn Appleton all of Kelowna; seven grandchildren: Ashley (Paul), Brittany (Ryan), Carly, Brooklyn, Jordan, Jessica and Ethan and one brother Ken Appleton (Evelyn) of Kelowna. Sadly predeceased by his wife Jeanette (2001) and his parents James and Ina Appleton. Jim was born and raised in Kelowna and chose to raise his own family here. He loved making people laugh through his emails and facebook messages. HEINCKE, Kathleen Irene 1936 - 2014 Kathleen Irene Heincke passed away on August 16, 2014 at Kelowna, BC at the age of 77 years. SCHMID, Claire Claire Schmid of Penticton passed away on August 10th, 2014 at Moog and Friends Hospice from breast cancer at the age of 84. She was born on January 19th, 1930 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Peter and Anna Ratzlaff. She is survived by brothers and sisters John Ratzlaff, Mary Warkentin, Alfred Ratzlaff, Sara Thiessen and Phil Ratzlaff, her husband Art Schmid and step-children Elizabeth Connah, Hans Schmid, Carol Duff, Julia Johnson, Val Forsyth, Art Schmid, and Greg Schmid. She is predeceased by her parents, brothers Peter, Herman and Jake, and sisters Annie Suderman, Katie Stobbe and Susie Unrau. She always had the warmest of smiles to brighten any day. Thank you to all who visited Claire especially her friend Trudy, Greg and Patricia, the staff and volunteers at Moog House and the therapy dogs. Claire longed for this day when her saviour's face she'd see. We will celebrate her life on August 29th, 2014 at 11:00am at the Grace MB Church in Penticton.

Terry Blain Maetche Passed away peacefully in Kelowna, BC on August 13, 2014 at the age of 55. Terry is deeply mourned by his family. Children: Corey (Kyla) Maetche and Jenna Maetche, Mother: Thelma (Fielding) Maetche, Sisters: Linda (Cam) Larson, Jori Ann Gruza and Patti (Robbie) Maetche, Girlfriend: Irmgard Meyer, Sister-in-Law: Rose (Dave) Clay, Nieces and Nephews: Tai, Chris, Erin, Hannah, Dayna, Ray Ann and Mikyla. Terry was predeceased by his Grandaughter: Claire Maetche, Father: Lawrence Maetche, Brother: Gary Maetche, Sister-in-Law: Lori Maetche, Brother-in-Law: Moeses Gruza, and Niece: Heather Maetche. Terry was born in Hanna, Alberta. He was an avid hockey player from childhood to his youth, followed up by coaching minor teams. He was a Glazier for most of his working career. Terry will be missed for his wacky wonderful sense of humor, his kindness, big heart and loving ways. In lieu of flowers Terry would be honored with donations to your local Boys and Girls Club. There will be a get together for family and friends on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the Montgomery Community Hall at 5003 16th Avenue NW in Calgary, Alberta from 1 to 5pm.

CHAPMAN, Eva (nee Fraser) November 24, 1930 - Winnipeg, Man. August 18, 2014 - Kelowna, B.C. Eva Chapman of Kelowna passed away peacefully on Monday, August 18, 2014 at the age of 83. Eva was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was there that she met and married Ray Chapman. After the birth of their son, Doug, they moved to Montreal where their first daughter was born. Their second daughter was born a number of years later, when they had returned to live in Winnipeg. Since then, Eva has moved with her family to Southern Ontario (Brampton and Ballinafad), Tsawwassen, B.C., Calgary, Ab., Comox, B.C. and Kelowna, B.C. It was Eva's loving and strong commitment to family that made our nomadic life exciting and enriching. Eva travelled frequently and maintained a close friendship with her sisters, brother, sisters and brothers in-law. She will always be remembered for her wit and sense of humour, fabulous cooking and baking, creativity, style and generosity. Eva will be deeply missed by her husband Ray of 60 years; her three children, Douglas (Angie), Debra (Martin) and Donna; her grandchild Madeline and her Scottie, Bonnie. Eva also leaves her sisters Margaret Maslanko and Betty Ambrose and families, Ray's family, and a lifetime of dear and treasured friends. Susanna Kruger April 2, 1934 - August 17, 2014 We are very sad to announce the passing of the much loved Susie Kruger on August 17, 2014 at Moog & Friends Hospice House in Penticton, after a long battle with cancer at the age of 80. She was predeceased by her mother Sofia Dietche and her father Gustav Wirsch. Susie will be fondly remembered and missed by her loving family including husband Adolf, sons Hagen (Kerry) and Roland (Karen), grandsons Nikolas (Kendra), Alexander (Brandee), granddaughter Robyn and great-grandchildren Sofia and Steven; sisters Rosa Tschritter of Stoney Creek, ON, Erna Wesenberg of West Kelowna, BC, Herta Bubenzer of Winnipeg, MB and Erika Mueller of Vernon, BC. Susie's smile was contagious. Everyone who met her will remember her smile and laughter, and joy she brought to this world. On the day of her passing she died with the largest smile on her face... going out in true Susie fashion! GRANT, Irene D. Passed away on Aug. 17th, 2014 at the age of 90 at Village at Smith Creek in West Kelowna. Born in Birmingham, England, she came to Canada in 1946 as a war bride. She moved to Kelowna from Thunder Bay in 1969 with her husband John. They truly loved living in the Okanagan Valley, fulfilling a lifetime dream. She was predeceased by her loving husband John on May 13, 2009. She is survived by her 3 sons: John (Lucille), Douglas (Irene) of West Kelowna, BC and Brian (Gladys) of Murillo, Ont. She leaves behind a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren who she enjoyed seeing and spending time with. Also left to mourn her passing are brothers and sisters in England, as well as a brother in Nanaimo, BC and in Thunder Bay, Ont. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. R. Bystrom for his years of care. The wonderful staff at Westwood Retirement Resort, Kelowna General Hospital, Cottonwoods Care Centre and Village at Smith Creek for their kindness and support. FAULKNER, Irene Rachel (nee Lucht) Passed away peacefully on August 19, 2014 at the age of 86. She is survived by her loving family of four sons; Howard (Isabelle), Richard (Allana), Douglas (Trish) and Gordon (Irene). Irene was proud to have 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Sadly, she was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 2001 and their son Donald in 2004. Born in Luseland, SK on February 7, 1928, Irene moved to Fruitvale, BC with her family in the 1930's. She met Gordon in Trail, BC and they were married on June 2, 1951. They moved to Kelowna, BC and in 1960 Gordon and Irene built a home in Westbank where they raised their family and remained for the rest of their lives enjoying the beauty and lifestyle of Westbank. Irene worked for Reece's Westbank Fruit Packing House for many years where she met many lifelong friends. LENNEY, HUGH DAVID Died on August 13, 2014 at the age of 53 years. Hugh will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Genevieve Elizabeth Lenney, parents, Roger and Irene Lenney, children, Rosalyn and Katherine and sister, Forrest Ann Lenney. Sadly predeceased by his mother, Phyllis Forrest. Hugh was a loving husband and father and a kind and generous friend. He was an active member of the local climbing community who worked tirelessly to support climbing and access to Skaha Bluffs. All will remember his beautiful smile which was seen most often when enjoying a day surrounded by his great friends climbing at the Bluffs. ORME, Margaret Audrey Margaret passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 15, 2014 in Toronto, Ontario. Margaret was predeceased in death by her parents Daniel and Eva Hamilton, her husbands Frank Orme and Ken Foster, plus her brothers Lorne Hamilton, Carlton Hamilton, Roy Hamilton and her sister Hazel Ryan. Margaret was born in Kenora, Ontario on June 21, 1920. In 1945 she met her future husband Frank Orme, and they married in 1946. They relocated to British Columbia and eventually moved to Kelowna, BC where she resided until declined health moved her closer to family in Toronto in 2012. Margaret spent fifteen years at the Royal Bank of Canada in Kelowna. After retiring she enjoyed golfing, travel, playing bridge and most of all entertaining friends. Margaret is survived by her loving daughters Carolee of Toronto, and Jill Simpson and husband Allan of Durham, NC. She is also survived by her five grandchildren Jordan Simpson and wife Patton of Durham, NC, Kelsey Koenig and husband Ryan of Raleigh, NC, Jeffrey Simpson of Nashville, Tennessee, Lucy Harris and William Harris both of Toronto, Ontario. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Gray Simpson of Durham, NC, Kirby and Cooper Koenig of Raleigh, NC. Margaret also had several nieces and nephews whom she adored. A memorial service was held in Toronto, Ontario on Monday, August 18, 2014. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Parkinson Disease foundation would be greatly appreciated.

CURRIE, Helen Inez Helen Currie, nee Love, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014 in her 96th year. Helen is survived by her loving family, a son Bruce (Bobbie) and granddaughters Meghan and Tanya (Brendan). Helen was born Sept. 1, 1918 in Oyen, Alberta. She attended business college in Saskatoon in 1935 where she trained in bookkeeping. She married John Arthur (Art) in 1942 in Saskatoon. During the war, Helen lived in Victoria, Vancouver, Montreal and Ottawa all locations where Art was stationed. After the war in 1946 they moved to Vonda, Sask. where they welcomed the birth of their two sons, Bruce and Glen. In 1955 the family moved to Kitimat, B.C. where Helen became a travel agent at Kitimat Travel and Art became Municipal Manager. In 1976 Helen established her own travel agency, "Wings Travel" in Kitimat. Her position as a travel agent brought a wonderful opportunity to travel the world. In 1977 they retired to Kelowna, B.C. for the summers and to Mesa, Arizona in the winters, where she enjoyed golfing and playing bridge. Helen instilled the love of culture, history and travel into her two granddaughters. Sadly predeceased by husband John Arthur (Art) Currie (2011), son Glen (1970), her father John Love, mother Catherine Love, and seven sisters, Winnie Grey, Catherine Lockhart, Dorothy Lapp, Jo Grant, Jen McLeod, Ruth McLean and Vi Campbell. Private service at Helen's request. Special thanks to Shirley Foster who was at Helen's bedside most of the nights during her last few weeks, and to all the caring staff at Hospice House. MCCREADY, Linda Helen Passed away peacefully with family by her side on August 18, 2014 at the age of 72. Survived by her loving family, daughter Debbie McCready (Gardner Joe) of Calgary, son Ken (Michele) McCready of Kelowna, five grandchildren Graham Joe, Nicole Joe, Alayna McCready, Kaylie McCready and Michael McCready; two sisters: Mary-Lou Brien (John Sereda) of West Vancouver and Elaine Powell of North Vancouver. Predeceased by her husband Ken and parents Patrick and Frances Brien. Linda and Ken moved to Kelowna from Vancouver in 1964. With a few years off to raise her children, Linda worked as a Registered Nurse at Kelowna General Hospital until she retired in 2003 at the age of 62. She was a special nurse who touched many people over the years with her kindness and tender loving care. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cared deeply for her family. She will be missed and forever loved. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 27th at 11:00 am at Springfield Funeral Home Family Centre, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC, with Rev. PETERS, PAUL Paul passed away peacefully in Penticton with his family at his side August 23, 2014. He eagerly came into the world on March 16, 1968 at MSA Hospital in Abbotsford, BC. Paul is the loving son of Art and Donna Peters and eldest brother to Scott (Tiffany) and Troy (Tonya) Peters also of Abbotsford. He graduated from WJ Mouat in 1986 and throughout his school aged years demonstrated a passion for wrestling and baseball. Growing up in Abbotsford, Paul and his family enjoyed many outdoor activities and camping adventures together, and eventually with the guidance of his father, Art, he became an avid huntsman and fisherman. In 1993 Paul was blessed with his first born son Kyle, and shortly thereafter, in 1994, he proudly welcomed his second son Sean. Paul relocated to Penticton in 1994 and soon became a valued person in the community, forming many relationships and friendships. Soon after his arrival in Penticton, Paul joined the Quest ball team where he quickly became part of their special family; their support has gone beyond what could have ever been expected. Paul was a devoted employee of Terasen Gas for over 20 years, and throughout his career, he formed many cherished friendships with his colleagues. Throughout his courageous battle with cancer Paul received the unconditional support and love of so many. His family will eternally be grateful to all of you. He is survived by his boys, Kyle and Sean; his wife Ali and his step children, Kaylee, Dan, Justin, and Matthew; nieces Alexandra and Lauren and nephews, Jesse and Charlie. Paul will be greatly missed by all that knew him and loved him. A Celebration of his Life will be held Sept. 1, 2014 1:00 p.m. at the Penticton Lakeside Resort. Helen returned to Kelowna in the 50's where she resided the rest of her life. A breast cancer survivor of 45 years. Predeceased by her husband William Ramsay in 1975.
